OLED 4K 30" 60 Hz - Dell UP3017Q - Page 25

I think he means 5% lower than white, I would hope or *** is up with those pics? You can see black for the monitor border, keyboard and mouse, so the screen is WAY off.

I also found its 27" size to small to be real world useable for what I do....although the 32" 8k would probably do me pretty good.....that extra 5" goes a long way thumb.gif

The Dell 5K is terrible for gaming. Pixel speeds counted in moon-cycles. Really the only thing I liked about it was the plasma deposited coating and text clarity.

I typically say that unless you know exactly what you are doing with a camera, taking pictures of monitors is usually more harmful than helpful. No offense. wink.gif

Vega can you please take a quick shot or two of your uniformity at 5% and 100%? I understand OLED takes a bit to get to it's sweet spot but I am just curious how it looks now.

I have the same patterns, they are 5% gray, or very close to black. Some cameras cannot take pictures of displays.

This is what i'd always wondered because Samsung phone/tablet Oled screens always look like crap to me. Bubble gum neon pinks and neon greens ect. I'd pood it years back before Oled were mainstream in TVs i had doubts about the over saturation ever being tamable. Random people assure me you can calibrate them to look correct, i still had my doubts. I haven't actually payed any attention to Oled since i was never interested in 55" TV for a pc monitor and i don't watch Tv. But figured if this is to be more of a graphic focus monitor they must have done something to rectify that.

Also not to be a buzzkill, but i had a though today. I wonder if Dell had these in production and then something happened where they had to go back to the drawing board and that's why they were held up so long - well that part is apparently true but, like Vega mentioned they seem to have been sitting on a shelf for awhile. So my thought was. I wonder if they are just clearing out stock? Like they invested so much into these things and they patched them up and selling them and this is a one time thing and they abandon it after.

Also since the last few days i finally started reading up on Oled ( didn't matter to me until it was relevant to me ) But it looks like Samsungs Qled, which they purport to be "better" than Oled - whatever, i think it's basically VA with Quantum Dots right, albeit a little more than that. It could be a more suited tech for pc monitors. Some of the videos out there of showroom stuff at the tech shows it does seem to compete with Oled though. However if it's just gamma shifting VA and they did nothing about that then forget that, but it doesn't appear that way.. will have to see. Just a though.

I've been wondering that too, given one owners monitor was made 5 months ago. 30 day 100% satisfactions with a 3 year warranty. I'll judge with my eyes, and if I feel like it's not worth the price it will go back. I think everyone here will do the same.

Samsung OLED phones have great color accuracy, better than most monitors. They are in some extremely oversatured color profile by default though, you just change that to the Basic profile and the colors are very accurate. Almost no one I've seen runs it in the Basic color profile though heh so I guess people like the oversaturation.

Samsung's "QLED" is indeed just quantum dot VA, with much lower contrast and brightness than their high end 2016 TVs although slightly more color gamut. It does not compete with OLED, they're still using edge mounted backlighting, putting them behind the likes of Vizio who uses FALD with 384 dimming zones, Sony's Z9D which has much more than that, and the upcoming 4k 144 Hz FALD IPS monitors which have 384 zones.

As for oversaturation, rtings achieved decent results calibrating LG's OLED TVs, especially the C7 as seen here. Granted, that would still be oversaturated as a gaming monitor since game content is made for the sRGB color space, not DCI-P3.

we also have to keep in mind, when someone drops $3500 on a desktop screen it can be easy to try to justify the purchase and have a bit of bias.

It's no small coin and THE only OLED monitor on the market...it' easy to downplay the faults. If I was put in that position where there's only one OLED option on the market, I would force myself to a bit past the shortcomings since there are no viable alternatives (not everyone wants a 55" on their desk...or go back to LCD)

Luckily, we have some very objective owners like Zurv.

Cheers.

I do think it goes both ways. You also have people who spent $3500 and for that price it better check all the boxes they were hoping to get checked so they are more critical instead of less.
