OLED 4K 30" 60 Hz - Dell UP3017Q - Page 46

Yes any color shift or contrast ratio changes due to LCD panels in strobe "ULMB" mode do not apply to OLED monitors. Those reasons are very different than how this monitor operates. This monitors picture would look identical whether it was full sample-and-hold or strobing at its current 120 Hz.

I also have a HP 32" Specter 4K gloss 10-bit IPS panel I will put next to the OLED and take some pictures. According to NCX, it's the best LCD he's ever used in his review here:

I am tired of listening to braying posters who have not even put eye balls on this thing and refuse to comprehend how horrid an idea of LOPSIDED ULMB ON ALL THE FRIKKIN TIME IS. I'm done here in this thread guys.... The monitor sucks. My 2cents from somebody who actually BOUGHT it and TRIED IT. Good luck!

I think it's still better than any non-OLED monitor on the market, but I mean that's simply due to the fact that every LCD on the market looks like utter crap compared to OLED. You can't go back to LCD after being on OLED, and I think someone going from LCD > OLED for the first time would be thrilled with the monitor simply due to contrast.

I can do the same if you will let me know what monitor settings you are using and what camera settings you are going to use so that we can try to have as little variance as possible. I have an a7rII. I am definitely not seeing oversaturated colors using srgb color space-- at all. There might be a bit of a green tinge...

Jes you have the Dell too? How are you liking it?

Dell OLED on the left, HP IPS on the right:

Having looked at a dozen or so dynamic images, even against one of the best IPS panels (and glossy to boot) the Dell clearly comes out on top. The motion clarity is also obviously better with the double strobe.

I am also going to revise the input lag on the Dell after more testing up from low 20's to around average 30ms input lag. This is do to the average of the strobe scan-out that can be seen on the top left of this pic:

So the 2017 LG's should feel ever slightly snappier, but with higher MPRT and motion blur.

I highly doubt that's true for the long-term, just only maybe for the short term until LG is actually capable of manufacturing medium-sized WOLED panels (especially since the average going price for a 40" monitor is quite a bit higher than a 40" TV).

Would this still be true even with native 120Hz input but with sample-and-hold?

Massive image dump incoming.... 1st pic in each series is the dell, then iPad 9.7" pro, then MacBook Pro 13" 2014. I've never taken pictures of a screen before but I did adjust each screen so the brightness was the same(excluding the TV, as that was already set up and didn't want to mess with it, but I kept the exposure consistent). For the close up pictures I metered the white balance off a neutral gray image on that monitor and did that for each screen. I also took a few group shots with a white balance metered off of the ambient light in the room so you can see any comparative differences. Dell oled settings were all defaults except I changed the monitor profile to color space > srgb-- otherwise the colors would've been horrible saturated. So I think what the images show is that there's not a saturation issue in the srgb profile mode, but there maybe a color cast issue.. maybe not. I gave up on trying to profile this thing with my i1 display pro.

Overall quite positive, but a bit of a mixed bag for me.. will definitely need the full evaluation time with it to see if it meets my needs. Games looked great on it.. Definitely could not play competitive overwatch with it, though it looked awesome. Additionally sampled Virginia, RE7, Mass Effect Andromeda, and Dishonored 2 and all looked stunning. My main concern is color accuracy-- if I can't accurately profile the screen then it kinda defeats the purpose of using it a photography workflow. My initial thinking on wanting the screen was that(assuming image fidelity) perfects blacks would be the ultimate way to edit. I also often stream and setup gets cumbersome using my oled tv and thought just using an oled monitor would certainly be better for streaming purposes.

Ultimately it may come down to the fact that I just know version 2 of this is going to be the one I want and at 3500 it's a bit pricey to buy it twice.

What monitor settings were you using in the image you posted comparing the dell with the hp?
