HDMI 2.0 (2013) maxes out at 4K 60 Hz RGB at only 8 bpc, but DisplayPort 1.2 has 20% more bandwidth than HDMI 2.0, despite popular belief that "they're the same bandwidth, cuz they both max at 4K 60 Hz". 10 bpc color depth requires 25% more bandwidth than 8 bpc, but there's also some room to play with since 4K 60 Hz 8 bpc only uses about 90% of HDMI 2.0's bandwidth.

DisplayPort 1.3 (2014) supports 50% more bandwidth than DP 1.2, more than enough for 4K 60 Hz 10 bpc RGB/YCbCr 4:4:4 (as I said, DP 1.2 was enough for that already). HDR support wasn't introduced until DisplayPort 1.4 (2016), but that was released very shortly after v1.3 because it was basically just an addendum, there were delays on finalizing HDR and DSC, so rather than delay the v1.3 spec further, they just published v1.3 without those, then added v1.4 about 18 months later with the HDR and DSC support originally planned for v1.3. As far as I know, no products were ever produced with DisplayPort 1.3, so things are skipping straight to v1.4 so HDR support shouldn't be a problem here.

Just for reference:

HDMI 2.0:           18.0 Gbit/s bandwidth, 14.40 Gbit/s data rate (80% efficient with 8b/10b encoding)
DisplayPort 1.2:   21.6 Gbit/s bandwidth, 17.28 Gbit/s data rate (8b/10b)
DisplayPort 1.3:   32.4 Gbit/s bandwidth, 25.92 Gbit/s data rate (8b/10b)
HDMI 2.1:           48.0 Gbit/s bandwidth, 42.6666... Gbit/s data rate (88.8% efficient with 16b/18b encoding)

3840×2160 at 60 Hz with 10 bpc RGB or YCbCr 4:4:4 color with CVT-RB timing overhead (a mouthful I know, but it's all relevant tongue.gif) requires a data rate of 16.0 Gbit/s. The same at 8 bpc requires 12.8 Gbit/s. So HDMI 2.0 can support 8 bpc, but not 10 bpc, while DisplayPort 1.2 supports both, and with a comfortable margin (and in fact does, in real products).

In fact, 2560×1440 at 165 Hz with 8 bpc color requires more bandwidth than 4K 10 bpc; around 16.8 Gbit/s, and I think it's well known that DP 1.2 can do that one.

HDMI 2.1's data rate is just enough for 4K 144 Hz 10 bpc (HDR) with RGB or Y4:4:4, which takes ≈40.0 Gbit/s.

How about DP 1.4, is it sufficient to hit 4K 144Hz 10 bpc (HDR) with 4:4:4? That is similar specs as upcoming ASUS ROG swift right?

I just went and puchased the 65 inch C7 because I love the 55 inch C7 I have!

Anyone wanting the 55 C7, I have it up for sale on EBay! Great chance to get it a lot less then what I paid for it. Loving pc gaming at 120hz on this thing!!

Well, DSC support compression up to 3:1 as "visually lossless", so in theory it could. We will have to see how it works out though. What we DO know is that DSC has to be used on this monitor.

Without compression (DSC), no
https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/729232-guide-to-display-cables-adapters-v2/?section=calc&mode=maxfreq&H=3840&V=2160&bpc=10&format=ycbcr444
DP 1.3/1.4 max out close to 4K 120 Hz 8 bpc RGB (YCbCr 4:4:4).

If you enable DSC though yes it can. DSC been demonstrated to look almost identical to uncompressed, but latency impact hasn't been tested. VESA claims it adds only a few microseconds, but we'll see.

Here are my custom color settings using the Dell 30 menu with no calibration and no pc monitor controls (Nvidia control panel monitor settings are default.) It's for better IQ in streaming YouTube 4k videos viewed in Chrome browser. It now may work for some games, need to test more games though.

If it doesn't work for the YouTube streaming 4k vids, if you lose contrast or whatever then I won't post stuff like this anymore. This is probably for those like me that don't mind saturated colors.

So the custom color settings are:
Input Color Format: RGB
Gamma: 2.2 (Default)
Hue: R:52, G: 52, B: 52 (Default is 50 each)
Offset: R: 50, G: 50, B:50 (Default is 50 each)
Saturation: R: 50, G: 50, B: 50 (Default is 50 each.)
Gain: R: 96, G: 96, B: 96 (Default is 100 each. Apparently a too high Gain can produce a grainy effect which may give a less vivid image. But a too low Gain can result in less detail in dark objects.)
Leave the C,M,Y alone at Default 50 each

Other menu settings:
Brightness: 100 (Default is 100)
Sharpness: 50 (Default is 50)

When you use your own Custom Color all the other presets like Standard, Multimedia, etc do not affect the Custom Color settings from what I can tell. The Brightness and Sharpness settings will affect it though. I think Brightness and Sharpness are separate controls not in the Presets. This whole thing is tricky but some expert out there may find some good results in Custom Color. Pro calibration is better of course.
Edit: Changed some settings.

I'm looking at product images on line and I dont see any vents on the back?
May be on the bottom side? otherwise what's the point of putting a fan in?

50 pages later and we still dont know who made the panel. I hope TFT Central or rtings get this monitor soon biggrin.gif

The vent is the horizontal line at the top back. I looked for a way into the chassis, but wasn't going to get out my pry tools on a $3K monitor just to know if the panel is Samsung or Sony. Too much risk for basically no reward.

no reward? knowledge is power. rolleyes.gif

it's mostly plastic tabs and no screws?
I was thinking after I confirm no uniformity issues and no dead pixels, that would be the first thing I do.
