Do not buy a C7. Buy the B7A they are the exact same TV but the B7A only lacks dolby atmos decoding and thats it. I have a 55 inch B7A coming in on wednesday that I am gonna try to use as a monitor. My current B6P is no good for monitor use since it's 65 inches which is way way too big and has 75ms of input lag in 444 mode. I'll let you know how the B7A works out for me.
To be fair, Rtings tested the B7's image retention and concluded it was measurably higher than the C7's. How much of that is unit variation, I don't know, but it could be panel binning on LG's part (which would make sense).

I've never really had much issue with image retention even on my B6. Then again I don't really do 8 hour gaming marathons or anything. If the B7A is similar to the B6 in that regard then I'd be fine with that.

Got my B7A in. Unfortunately it's still too big for me personally as a monitor. I get many of you guys make it work but for me there's just too much neck moving going. Looks like I'll be waiting for a 40 inch before I use an OLED monitor. But damn I'd say picture is improved even over the B6

Trick is the distance, i sit 2 feet from my 24 inch monitor, and when i say 2 feet i mean eyes are 2 feet from the surface of the screen. This translates to a field of vision of 47 degrees. Now if i were to use a 55 inch tv for a monitor and i wanted to have an identical field of vision i can calculate that with some simple math.

55 inch tv / 24 inch monitor = 2.3

TV is 2.3 times larger than the monitor. Multiply 2.3 by my current distance of 2 feet from the monitor and i get 4.6 feet. I need to sit 4.6 feet from the 55 inch tv to have the field of vision be 47 degrees.

Rtings has a nice explanation of everything here: http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/by-size/size-to-distance-relationship

and they recommend 30 degrees for normal everyday usage, 40 degrees for movies for a more immersive experience, but i personally find 47 degrees the sweet spot for myself. Not too close to be overwhelming, easy to focus on the entire screen and not move my head.

I've been contemplating getting a C7 in addition to this desk http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S49110931/ I'd place the TV on my current desk and use the smaller desk for my 36 inch mousepad and kb/m. I'd be able to emulate the very same feel that i have right now with my current desk as far as using the mouse/kb comfortably.

I'll try positioning it 4.6 ft away. One other thing I've noticed, text is insanely fuzzy on it. I'm not sure if it's due to it being such a low ppi or maybe it has a weird subpixel layout like Samsung VA panels, but text is not crisp and sharp at all. Yes I've tried messing with cleartype but can't really get any good results out of it. Can any C7 owner chime in on what to do about this? Maybe I'm just using wrong cleartype settings? Do I need to change something else within Windows?

Edit: Desk isn't deep enough to do 4.6 ft lol totally dumb that I didn't realize this right away.

With the B7 and C7 currently at €1399 and €1499 respectively, I've been contemplating getting one, myself (with a similar solution to Malinkadink's)!

Yeah I've got UHD deep color enabled and the quick brown fox test passes at 100% scaling in full screen. The text color doesnt bleed into each other, it's just fuzzy looking. Maybe this is just due to the low ppi as I'm used to >100 ppi screens.

If you move back to 5 feet from the screen and maybe adjust the sharpness a bit it should look better. The ppi is like 80 for a 4k 55 inch which is equal to a 27 inch 1080p and i remember how gross it was to sit in front of a 27 inch 1080p

It is definitely low ppi. I sat back 5 feet away and well, the text appears more "normal" now I suppose. Sitting 2.5 ft to a 55 inch display is just too close, those 40 inchers just can't come fast enough...
