[VideoCardz] AMD Radeon RX 500 series official specifications and performance leaked - Launching April 18th - Page 21

A rebrand simply replaces the name. From 290x to 390x there's a huge difference with power consumption signifying it's more of a refresh than a rebrand. Rebrand is 280x.

280x was really a bad midrange card.
380x was late.
RX 480 was branded flop, underwhelming, underperforming and yet it's the AMD midrange card that help AMD regain market share. rolleyes.gif

280 and 285X (I have) Should have been out when Nvidia released GTX770 and not GTX970 and GTX980. Fury X should have been out right after GTX980 giving AMD the lead for 6 months or so. They should have just build a GDDR5 512-Bit card and call it a day. Then they should have focused strait for Vega and let Nvidia beat them with GTX980 Ti. Have Vega ready for GTX 1080 and beat them there and rise and repeat. Now AMD is late and slow. I do think in terms of sale getting Polaris out first is a better more in general.

AMD' budget went and invest more with ryzen. It's hard to blame them when they have fewer budget than intel and nvidia. But you can see now AMD is so competitive now in cpu. Personally I think rx 480 should have been closed to fury level if AMD put more effort on dx11. But it is what it is. I still like AMD cards than NVIDIA in midrange.

If this was an new GPU and with entire new performance, maybe 250 would have been acceptable.

But if you didn't want to buy an rx480 a year ago for $240 or the $200-160 people have been able to pay with the price drops, an rx 580 with 8% more performance 1 year later not going to move the dial for most people and is thus just a let down from AMD.

Considering this is a rebrand which is cheaper for AMD to make, this card should be coming at a cheaper price like every prior rebrand. Coming at the same initial MSRP price is pretty terrible as far as expectations go for the GPU industry. There hasn't been any time in history as far as GPU where a rebrand came with the same initial pricing as it's predecessor. Rebrands always came out faster and priced lower.

Nvidia barely has to do anything to stop AMD sales. Dropping the gtx 1070 to $300 would do it as would dropping the gtx 1060 pricing to $200.

With AMD not being aggressive about the pricing of these cards, it lowers the bar as far as price/ performance for Vega too. If vega performs like a gtx 1080 ti, forget about 550 dollar pricing as that would basically be linears price to performance with these cards. Expect $700 pricing.

You are overthinking it. 580 still has 1060 as competition. Nvidia sets the prices, AMD follows.

Only a $55 to $70 premium for a 9.5% boost

Maybe i dont live in USA?

You make fun of yourself sometimes so hard.

A 480 8 gb cost around 250-280 here. So a higher clock 480 with a better cooler for the same money it is a bad deal right?

You are trying way too hard wink.gif

Maybe next time try to link a 24 hours sale sales + rebate gpu just to justify yourself.

For 30 bucks more you get a better gpu

You have no idea...

280x for the price was the best gpu. Even after 5 years tahiti is a beast of a chip.
380/380x was a flop.
480 is equal to the 1060. So what's wrong with that?

How is 280x good as a midrange card? High power consumption and heat. It's a 7970. How can you recommend people to buy a midrange card that's power hungry. As a mid-range card 280x is not good. As a high-end which is 7970 it ages well and you can justify it being a power-hug but not as a mid-range. Mid-range cards are sweet spot not only for price but also on power consumption and heat output.

Aren't you one of the people calling RX 480 bad?

No kidding, it's like the AMD and Apple fiasco over the 380 and 380x again. Why does AMD do this to themself?
