Not sure how this comparison makes sense.
He is comparing a 7700K at 5ghz vs a 1700x at 4ghz.
You get more CPU performance numbers than GPU numbers. I don't see GPU usage numbers, but just frame rate numbers.

At 5ghz the 7700K has more than enough single core performance to give the drivers and GPU engines more room to breath.
Most likely this will apply to the vega on similar scenarios. The faster the card, the more it depends on the CPU to deliver all the data fast enough, and core performance might come into play.

He Incuded frametimes and GPU usage. with this videoHe is doing an OC vs OC comparison, if you wanted a "fair comparison" then you would compate them a stock clocks (no boost)

and really if the card is faster but running ona well optimized game like DOOM it wouldnt show a big difference unless it is under cpu limited scenarios

that seems it depends on the game
http://www.anandtech.com/show/11244/the-amd-ryzen-5-1600x-vs-core-i5-review-twelve-threads-vs-four/11

for example Fury and 1060 get similar scaling on each cpu

Those minimum frame rates are incredible @ 1ghz slower than 7700k

It's just a testament to how Frostbite likes extra cores. Ryzen's price per core will only further encourage devs to push past the current core requirement.

It's clear that there is a problem in some games, but the cause hasn't been well established.
