Latest Intel Chipset driver work well on Windows 7/8.1.
Audio and Lan driver you need to find it,aswell,on GB,Msi,Asus support site

Ah, good to know; the iGPU is mostly the same as Skylake anyway, the only things added are more codec options.

For audio and lan drivers those are good places to start and for Realtek stuff, directly from their site is also an option.

Do either of you have experience with UnRaid? I've been looking into it for a sever setup anyways, and there's great documentation for that, but I can't find much documentation for it's PCI-passthrough & Desktop-y uses.

What methods / possibilities are there for using it's VMs in more desktop-y roles? I know it makes PCI-e & USB-passthrough easy, but I'm not sure how that could be used to really be comparable to a Linux desktop with an extra GPU & probably input-switching on the monitor.

It's quite easy in UnRAID:

Sadly UnRAID isn't free :sad-smile

You can also do this in Proxmox:

It's German but the guide is straightforward.

Debian:

Lots and lots of guides online making it easy. I would advise avoiding Ubuntu and Mint as they make it really hard.

Here is a list of lots of Proxmox passthrough guides on Youtube.

OT: I'm stuck on win10 for some reason. I have a 6th gen cpu "6700hq" Predator G9-591. I went to try and install win7 and the install freezes. I'd love to go back to win7x64.

Maybe because acer does not supply drivers for this laptop in win7 and causes the freeze of install.

You brought my attention as you asked this.

I am in sata raid in uefi.

And nope, no nvme drive but the ssd is a sata m.2.

If I recall, raid drivers are needed for win7 like xp back in the day right?

Edit:
I guess my bios needs to be set to legacy and then I would need to get most drivers from the manufacturers like the killer network driver etc.

Acer is a nuisance.

But I had always ran win7 in uefi mode on my pc so I dont understand.

win 7 need his MBR = Legacy
