That is not really fair of you to say, I bought a kaby lake gaming laptop because I enjoy PC gaming, and this was before it was announced kaby lake was win 10 only. So really I am not putting up with anything, I just enjoy PC gaming and have no other options, if SteamOS had worked I would be using that right now instead, but its crap. lol

Agreed.... As soon as Linux is as user friendly as Windows (no entering command prompts), it unifies under one distro that just works without me learning to beat it into working and runs ALL my steam and EA games with no issues and without the 10-30fps hit it would currently have I will tell MS to kiss my backside and even pay for it. Till then there is only 1 choice as bad as that choice is.... That or game on console, surf internet on tablet and throw away all my comouter stuff.

With Xbox Scorpio supporting freesync 2 + after graduation a career desk job... the idea of going home to sit at another desk annoys me, so I may indeed be moving to console gaming, assuming freesync 2 works for all of the games on scorpio / ps5

Where are all the apologists who last time claimed that there was no problem as M$py would never implement this?

Right now the single greatest threat to our Windows OS is M$py themselves. There are machines that simply can't run Win Spy because of bugs and other incompatibilities and yet M$py are desperately trying to force their tripe onto us.

I run Win Spy on my G40-45 laptop because the only video drivers that work on it are 16.6 and I can't find them anywhere and I ran it on my server... what a disaster that was.

Why do people keep entertaining this wishful fantasy? There will never be a single Linux distro. That's a good thing and a bad thing for numerous reasons, but it's the way it will always be. It is not possible for there to be only one distro.

It's also unlikely that there will ever be a distro that completely avoids the command line. I can't avoid the command line on any OS, I don't see why Linux distros would be any different. A GUI is a terribly inefficient way of executing commands, so it is always limited in what it can do.

As for games... well, that's up to the publishers.

I actually was on Windows 8.1 ( I like it, very minimalistic, no bloatware, smooth as butter ) I upgraded to Windows 10 because of this crap. stupid kaby lake in my laptop. I actually did a clean install yesterday... Sling TV, Facebook, and a few other junk came pre-installed with my Win 10... sigh... simple uninstall but why is this crap even on my OS... it blows my mind what M$ is doing... I really hope a new leader emerges someday, maybe a new company altogether not even Linux, STEAMOS or something gets better, heh, its all a joke.

~ Just a gamer guy

I, too, went through the trouble of uninstalling all the crap on Windows 10. Used powershell to remove some of the items that can't be removed, like the XBOX app and solitaire collections and some other stuff. I also turned off all the telemetry data.

Then came Windows anniversary update. SCREWED EVERYTHING UP. All the crap got reinstalled. All the spy settings got switched back on.

True, true and true. When it comes to games, it's night and day between what is was like 10 years ago and what it is now. Ten years ago there was no Steam for Linux (not even for Macs), no GOG (well, no GOG at all), you were either fiddling with WINE to get Windows games going or playing 6 year old games or concepts and projects with little relevance. It's getting viable. For people who don't crave every other fps out there it's viable already, I'd say. If you fancy some older AAA games that only run on Windows, checking out GOG for a DRM free version and then running them on a Windows VM without Internet connectivity is also a solution.

A GUI is GREAT for those of use who left command lines behind with the death of MS Dos on our PC 17 years ago and have no interest in going back. I am not an IT guy by trade. I only tought myself about computers what I did because I wanted to game on them. Once I leave my office and go home I dont use them for anything else but surfing the web and playing games. Most of my web surfing these days is from my phone. My OS for gaming needs to work and work well. I dont have time to "figure it out" as those precious hours can be better spent gaming for the 1 or 2 free hours I have each day. I strongly considered Linux and even asked my Nephew about it who has been writing prigrams in Linux since he was in 4th or 5th grade (he is now starting college in the fall for computers) but for what free time I have, the loss of performance it brings and the lack of "click an Icon and it just works" I cannot use it.
