Can't FW update 950 Pro : Magician doesn't see drive

Hi,

I have a 950 Pro using M.2 slot of Asus RVe. Latest BIOS on Asus, running Windows 10 Creators Update. No Intel RAID involved (AHCI everywhere). Yet Samsung Magician 5.0 can't see my SSD ?! I did an install from scratch to get the 950 Pro up to the new firmware : but before installing Samsung NVMe 2.2 drivers, Magician 5.0 lists 950 Pro as "Samsung 950" with no options at all (no firmware versioning read, etc) and when I install 2.2 drivers the 950 simply vanishes ?!!

Am I the only one ? Are there any solution ? How can I upgrade the firmware ?

Thx !

My problem doesn't seem to inspire you guys :-) Out of curiosity I installed Magician 4.9.7 on my Windows 10 Creators Update. Guess what ? It perfectly recognizes the 950 Pro, its status data (serial, TB written, the NVMe link being used, etc). The only thing is that I can't proceed with is the firmware update...

Is there a way to upgrade 950 Pro FW without using Magician 5.0 ? Thanks !

Edit : digging in config file of Magician 5.00, I found this :

20-04-2017 19:35:53 ERROR SILN00 SIL_DevInfo_SNT::Execute 62 NVMe exception [0] trying treating as scsi device
20-04-2017 19:35:53 ERROR SILN00 SIL_DevInfo_SNT::Execute 77 NVMe exception [0]

Anyone familiar with that ? Sounds like the culprit...

I had the same problem on my ASUS Deluxe II. Spent countless hours figuring out what was going on doing testing, resets, formatting, sending emails back and forth between Samsung useless SSD support.

Until I finally got it recognised by connecting it to PCIe using Asus M.2. card.

Not sure if it's Samsung or Asus fault =, my guess is Samsung but who knows. Now if I want to do anything Magician related like update firmware, etc, I have to connect it via PCIe, not standard M.2 port.

I hope it helps and let us know if it works.

Hey there,

Thanks for the suggestion. Tried that with a spare PCI-Express riser from Asus... and a WTG install (on the same mobo though). No luck frown.gif Still the same issue.

Damnit Samsung frown.gif

Heads up. The latest Magician release, v5.1 didn't help. However Uncle Sammy had the great idea to upload the ISO of the latest 950 Pro firmware. I was able to upgrade the firmware from a USB stick and now my 950 Pro is properly recognized by Magician (!!!). Thanks.

I am glad to hear that it's working. Hopefully Samsung will get back to realease every Firmware as an ISO for standalone updates.
