Single channel RAM vs Dual Channel?

Hi, so recently I upgraded from 8gb to 16gb of RAM. This somehow completely messed up my computer. All sticks work but for some reason, my 1st and 4th slot seem to be disabled. Slots 1&3 matchup while slots 2&4 match up. Because 1&4 won't work I was wondering how bad it would impact me to just insert each 8gb stick into the two nonmatching slots compared to taking my computer to a repair shop to get a diagnosis.
Thanks for the help!

Depending on the CPU, you would see between 5 and 10% drop in performance in CPU-intensive tasks, about 30-40% in memory-intensive tasks, and between 1 and 5% in games.

Thank you very much! I don't think I will be doing anything memory intensive , just gaming for the time being.
