Defiantly everyone care about that. Right?

That patch that lowered the power draw exactly four watts so the three people that supposedly had a motherboard blow up, out of which one is a known fake (and is actually a friend of mine), would feel better?

Come on. There was never an issue to begin with.

It wasn't killing no motherboards, there was 1 maybe 2 cases where something similar happened, and apparently was motherboard's fault due to its low quality. Also the 480 issue, wasn't really fixed, a workaround was found, not a real fix.

2. And yes there is a problem with "fine wine" because that trick will run out, will not work, and you will find yourself with a GPU you expected to be better, and find out it isn't.
3. So you will give excuses why it is still good, and still fine.
4. The fury x is still behind the 980 ti even in many dx12 cards, even after so long. So even if it got better than what it used to be, it is still not as good. Which is my point.

5. And no, improving dx12 and Vulcan is great, as long as it is not done single sided as well isn't it? else it will be the same situation isn't it?

1. (Bold because this is the most important bit.) No, I said that discrediting the snowball effect entirely is disingenuous. You, as is your wont, chose to extrapolate that into something entirely different, which is something that you seem to do with everybody who disagrees with you. This is how every debate you enter becomes an argument, because you make dubious assumptions and then fire off a load of vitriol based on those false assumptions. I will not engage with you under that guise, sorry.

2. None of this is meaningful without context. What's wrong with a card improving if I was already happy with the release performance? That's the situation that most Radeon owners find themselves in. The situation you're describing seems very fringe, as I personally haven't yet met a Radeon owner who said, "well, this card sucks right now but in four years it'll really come into its own". That's just not a thing.

3. I haven't yet, I don't know why I'd start now.

4. Yes, that's precisely one (1) example of ... something? I'm assuming this is your proof-positive of the scenario from point two, but it still doesn't make the point that you think it does. At launch, it was always more competitive at 1440p/2160p than fanatics made it out to be. It was not the best possible choice at that price bracket, but that didn't make it a pants-on-head purchase. It wasn't like buying an RX 470 at GTX 1070 prices and pretending that it was close in performance. So if someone bought it knowing what its performance would be and that performance underwent a relative increase rather than remaining static or suffering a relative decrease, how would that be a negative thing? That's not 'making excuses'. That's describing reality.

5. I'm not sure what you mean by 'single-sided'. Do you mean taking advantage of all of the features that are available even if they apply unevenly to different brands? How would that be different than maximising tesselation or making use of GameWorks features? See how I'm not demonising the latter? Developers are free to use those things as they're part of the larger graphics framework, even if it results in disproportional benefit to one vendor or the other. I don't see why Vulkan or DX12 should change the rules in that regard.

Welp.

I think the point is that amd is not as bad as many people believe and nvidia is not that good as many people believe because of reviews. Same thing with intel...

My biggest problem is that we don't have many objective reviewers that they can do a proper work.

I have seen some crazy things here on OCN. People just create so many assumptions and lies just to justify their purchase and their ego.

For example a lot of people actually want dx12 to fail just to say that intel's cpus are the superior choice. Same thing with nvidia. Or they want AMD to fail just to post on a stupid forum that they were right.

This is not about AMD, Nvidia or Intel. This is only about ego and personal preference.

Also where are all the good people here on ocn. Probably most of them moved to an other forum with so many trolls here.

God i hate when something that i love is mainstream.

I don't even understand the idea to be fanatic about something that doesn't belong to you.

The brand neutral computer lovers are still here, I suppose we just bow out when the arguing starts.. Lately I've been more into my retro builds anyway tongue.gif. I have noticed the change of direction in computer conversations over the past 10 years, must be with the rise of e-sports and younger gaming fanatics who really don't even have an actual interest in architecture or programming anymore.. Plus I think subtle marketing schemes have created weird PC factions.

On the other hand, I remember people being annoyed with the idea of using an AMD 486 DX2 or 5x86 over an intel DX2 (same socket for all of them) even though it was superior simply because it wasn't the genuine IBM part of choice and thus a nasty clone. So AMD has carried stigma for a long time.

I am a bit annoyed however with AMD right now just because I really want a card that can do 4k and use the freesync feature my new monitor has though, come on already AMD! Mwahahahah.

And that for me it is a huge problem. I don't want to get a GPU that underperform and hope it gets better. Take the 480 for example. Instead of getting better, AMD are just replacing it. At some point that tricks runs out.

The difference is that you pay for launch performance. For example 290X was not faster than GTX 780 Ti so you payed $150 less and needed up being faster. You are not missing anything with AMD. Also if you buy a GTX 1080 Ti now it does not really matter if its 10-20% slower than its relative performance 2 years latter. This way in 2 years the card will maintain it performance longer.

It's normally the newer members that like to make a big deal about their purchase justifications, but that isn't always the case. Even before I joined OCN and was just a lurker, there have always been arguments for ATI vs Nvidia or AMD vs Intel. It's just that there has been such a huge jump in price compared to 10 years ago, that it sociologically makes sense for human nature to take over and justify their expensive and unnecessary purchases. tongue.gif I have always used ATI/AMD due to having better value and solid experience throughout the years, but I will always acknowledge Nvidia being the superior performer overall. I think that over time, people realize what is more important to them and they stick with it without needing to justify their actions, hence less open-minded comments.

I do have to say if you're buying a $1200 product like the Titan X (1st Gen Pascal) and feeling salty about the 1080Ti and the Titan Xp (2nd Gen Pascal), you paid for a product with specific specs and performance and were delivered that product exactly. Feeling like you were duped by Nvidia is pure entitlement and arrogance since the 1080Ti and Titan Xp were not even available at your time of purchase.

I agree that everyone is really waiting for AMD to drop Vega so we can finally see a price drop from Nvidia or to just make use of their Ultrawide or 4K Freesync monitor.

You summed up how I feel about the whole deal.

No kidding. That's what I read throughout this whole thread, and happens often on this forum lol. A lot of it is ego stroking and personal justification.

Good points. I just don't understand the fear of context that some people have, as opposed to making blind distinctions based on brand-names. I fully understand that most people aren't going to do what I do and buy new stuff all the time for the sake of playing with new tech, but it has given me some perspective. That's probably why I feel the need to chime in when the arguments lean too far in a direction to the detriment of the truth. Like Ryzen's 'bad' single-threaded performance that I was able to evaluate next to a 6700k, and lo and behold, Ryzen's ST performance wasn't bad at all. Or the 1070 I bought from 'milker' Nvidia that was actually a great value for the cash I paid. Or the 480's I'm running in Crossfire that haven't blown my motherboard to smithereens yet.

There's just so much hyperbole and it irks me, thus the response.
