Windows 10 Creator update fails to install on any device

I have been trying to get this update to install all day long. It just won't install...at all. It refuses to install on either my PC or laptop both running legitimate copies on Windows 10 Pro.

On my PC I tried downloading the update manually since Windows update doesn't offer it. On my PC, the update appears to install, then I receive a troubleshooting screen when the PC restarts, and it never installs. Then I downloaded the installation from Windows media creation tool and tried upgrading from within windows. That fails with some error of

The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during BOOT operation

I have tried running the windows update troubleshooter and it detects a corrupted update database every time and repairs it. SFC find no corrupted files however, when I run dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restore health it can't find the image.

On my laptop I attempt to upgrade by manually downloading the update tool and I receive another error, and I have not tried the "in place" upgrade yet. Looks like I will have to do a clean install on both systems.

I lost count on how many people have been having various issues with this update. In the past when something refused to patch properly, I would download the update separately in an .exe pack. Don't know if M$ still does that.

That sounds horrible! I've updated a dell venue11 pro and my 3 stick pcs using the update tool and had a problem with a pc stick since it was taking forever and I turned it off and it reverted. No problems with the dell. It really is close to the others and these full reinstalls are getting old. But you're getting it one way or the other rolleyes.gif . Not sure what you mean by the "in place" upgrade, but if you mean keeping your files and settings, that is what I did since drivers for no name pc sticks are precious. Used a usb clean install for the desktop and was normal, a little new.

Hopefully It doesn't eat too much of your time.

I had a laptop not install the downloaded update until I ran Windows update, which my Laptop then installed some large updates. After those updates, the Windows 10 Creator Installed fine. On my laptop, I just did a fresh install using the created bootable USB.

Make and model of the laptop in question?
