Then they release a next gen titan within 6 months and ur full unlocked titan volta become obsolete.

Then u realised u been chasing something that never end

I think we should just stop listening to nVidia's marketing department.

nVidia has STOPPED launching their high-ends first - for a few generations now.

The xy80 cards are MID-RANGE cards:

The second Titan release is the ultra-high end.

The first Titan release & the xy80 Ti is the high end.

xy80 and xy70 is mid-range/ enthusiast.

xy60 and xy60Ti is mainstream.

Pricing is determined by how many years AMD takes to match performance biggrin.gif

Let me put it into perspective for you guys with short memories.

Disregarding any marketing or PR BS, if we take the time it took between big maxwell and small pascal and project forward, we end up with October of 2017. That's end of Q3 beginning of Q4. If Nvidia continues with their schedule, they should be ready with the next small volta chip this year. wink.gif

Well Pascal was basically overclocked Maxwell on16nm FF with very minimal architectural changes. Every time a major arch change is involved you typically see a longer release cycle.

Also I highly doubt they would obsolete their big chip after just 6-7 months.

So Q3 2017 Volta for mobile, Deep learning, and self driving car crap will be released and Q1 2018 will be the 1180 and Tesla cards, and finally Q1/Q2 2018 Titan Volta released.

That's all assuming Nvidia isn't just going to rebrand the 1080ti's as 1180's and then put 1180ti's on the Tesla 600mm^2 chips.

If it's the Latter of the two is correct then Q3 2017 launch for 1180 and Titan XLP or whatever is completely plausible.

Could switch to different software for work and go AMD, at least that way when you buy 4 top end cards you won't see another for 3 years thumb.gif

Didn't Nvidia give up on that and try a different approach to Ace units something with future prediction or some garbage? Don't think they had enough time when planning Volta to implement it maybe the Volta refresh they'll try another approach. And yes gut I know you keep waiting and you end up waiting for next best thing it's a cycle you can easily get locked in.

I'll just wait till pcie 4 and some other then Gddr5x or voltas probable GDDR5.5x at start then there HBM with super high mark up since it'll be there first gen attempt at it on consumer side so they will milk blood from stone to recoup there imaginary R&D costs even though it's been around for years. But either way it'll be nice to see new tech once it's come to consumer space.

The ace nonsense has been going on a while since fury x launches. That was in 2015. If volta is out in 2018 that is 3 years difference. I believe it is more than enough time for ace to be implement, if nvidia feel there is a need to.

Not that ace guaranteed a major perfomance boost but that misconception that it will be a revolutionary leap in performance refused to die.

Ace or not, if nvidia volta turn out to be twice as fast as amd flagship, It wont matter. Those who still argue ace is better are doing it out of fanboy ego.

It seems Nvidia has been very removing the functionality outa there GPUs and working to maintain gamer GPUs and workstation GPUs they have been removing that duel purpose for awhile. Look at Titan OG vs Titans we get now they are gamer GPUs with the other part that made em attractive in first place the dp capability has been effectively castrated and left to Quadro lines. But one thing I've noticed is Nvidia can brute force the performance outa that silicon like no one business to a point like you're pointing out they don't need Ace units if they can just crank out the performance they currently do. Sure they may lose some fps here there but they still manage to out perform.

Except in highly optimized games for other GPU arch's. Aots comes to mind. I'd just like them to build in 100% DX 12 functions not just pick choose which ones to support or open the GPU arch's in Volta to allow full vulkan comparability that'd be a huge win for Linux gamers and may even spur a rise in that Os for gaming.
