Hey guys. Just another build log. Been building PCs for years, but this will be my first custom loop.

Going with a black and white theme with some rgb lighting.

So far, my build consists of
-Phanteks Evolv ATX TG
-Phanteks c350i CPU water block
-Phanteks GTX 1080 FTW water block
-Gigabyte Aorus Gaming 7 z270 mobo
-EVGA 1080 FTW
-i7 6700k
-NZXT AER RGB fans
-Thermaltake 650 RGB PSU (probably going to upgrade to the 850)

Parts I'm saving for..
-Alphacool 280mm ST30 for the top/rear - ORDERED 4/21/17
-Alphacool ut60 or xt45 280mm for the front - ORDERED 4/21/17
-Singularity Computers Protium d5 pump/res combo
-G Skill RGB RAM
-Samsung NVMe 500gb m.2 ssd
-White Bitspower fittings
-white or UV white coolant

Probably going to be a slow build to get all things I want. It's been two weeks since I took apart my old PC and I've been using a Raspberry Pi for internet surfing since. It sucks. I miss my PC lol.

Anyways, here are some crappy cell phone pics of what I got so far. Bought a modular pci slot from mountainmods.com to mount my GPU vertically. Phanteks GPU block is in the mail, ditching the hybrid setup. It's just mocked up right now.

Feel free to throw suggestions at me. I'm new to custom loops so any insight is appreciated.

That's all I got for now. Hopefully this weekend I can get my rads ordered! Pretty excited about doing my first hard loop. Thanks for reading!

GPU block came in today! Ordered Friday afternoon from the UK, got here today. Sure is pretty.. And heavy! This thing weighs a ton lol. Also got a CPU and RAM on loan from a friend so I can build a cheap PC to game with. Using nothing but a Raspberry Pi for 2 weeks is f $#@!ing torture. Might go to Micro Center this weekend to scoop a cheap mobo and case. Having second thoughts about it though. I could just put the money towards things for my build and I really want to put this water block on my GPU now that it's here lol.

UPDATE:

Ordered my radiators yesterday. Should be here this week sometime. Decided on Alphacool rads because of the port layout. XT45 280mm for the front and ST30 280mm for the top. Going to use the bottom ports on the XT45 as a Y drain, regular in/out on the front, and a fill port or aeration fitting on the top. Does anyone have a good method for removing the paint from the threads in the radiator without getting paint chips inside? I would like to clean it up a little before I put it together as I have read paint chips can get in the loop. Also got an Alphacool flow indicator.

Hopefully this week I will be able to order RAM or a 500gb NVMe m.2 SSD. I've decided against using my friends PC parts for a temp rig. Rather spend the money on my own rig and just suffer for a couple more weeks with the RPi.

I'll be putting the water block on my GPU tomorrow maybe. Once I get the rads in, I can check for clearance to make sure there is room for the reservoir I am planning on using and start figuring out which fittings to buy. More than likely going to go with 10/12 tubes.

Also need to get the vertical GPU mount sorted. Figure out how high to mount it, then dremel the back of the case. Also might craft up a metal support bracket for the back since it is getting mounted where vent holes are and will need reinforcement to hold the weight nicely. GPU block is pretty heavy. Looking forward to this part the most. I hate the fact that GPU blocks look so good but you can never show them off because they face down. Hopefully the LED effect will still work well enough with pastel white coolant in the loop.

Loop order is going to be.. pump > GPU > ST30 rad > CPU > XT45 > res > pump.

Rained out of work for the day. Got the GPU block installed. The sag is real with this GPU bracket mounted on the vent. Little gripe: the Phanteks lettering on the CPU block is white, GPU lettering is gold. Oh well. Also returned my 650 PSU to Micro Center and got an 850. Thinking about taking the Riing fan out and putting an NZXT RGB fan in there. Both are 140.

Phanteks is hooking it up with an RMA. They responded quickly to my email which was very nice. Hope it gets sorted quickly! Another bit of sad news - decided to ditch the RGB RAM. Stuff is just too expensive, from what I've read the RGB functionality can be buggy, and I have no need for 32gb of RAM, yet I want to fill up all 4 RAM slots. I wish they sold it in a 4x4gb variety. I cheaped out and got 4x4gb white Ballistix from Newegg to match the build. On a good note, I picked up a 250gb Samsung 960 Evo M.2 SSD the other day. I'll move the OS to that and use my current 480gb SSD as storage. Also have 2x 1TB HDDs that I need to get an external bay for. These slow times suck lol. All I really have left to get is pump/res, fittings, tubing, coolant, and bending tools. Light at the end of the tunnel.
