[Guru3D] ASUS Radeon RX 580 STRIX review - Page 11

Meh, it's just a 480 with a slight speed bump, nothing special, really no point of this card really. Still waiting for Vega, was not interested in this card and didn't expect anything good from it anyway.

I have a 290x and also have the desire to upgrade but as an adult I have a thing called patience

Clearly AMD have been working on the Vega chip for some time , either wait for that or buy a Nvidia card no ?

The 580 has better p-states for better idle and light-load power consumption.

No, you should 'upgrade' every other month instead, both AMD and nVidia would be more than happy. In the meantime my 290 is still more than I need. It runs ME:A at high settings and I haven't come across a game yet that makes me feel the need to upgrade.

Oh bully for you. You trying to make it sound being patient is holier than thou and anyone else who hasn't is a bad thing?

Get with it, time waits for no person. The world doesn't sit and wait around for AMD to catch up. Neither is Nvidia for that matter. Intel did exactly that and look what happened to them.rolleyes.gif

Different people have different tolerances and having more/less is not wrong. Like i said, i've bad experiences with the green team and not willing to throw money at Nvidia anymore, otherwise i'd be nice and happy with a 1080Ti long ago and not wait up 3 years to see what AMD has to offer for Vega. If Vega fails, then i might have to go Nvidia as much as i hate it.

You obviously didn't read my post. I'm waiting on Vega to gauge it and failing that, i will wait for Volta. No point buying a 1080Ti now when Volta is coming. Nvidia is not my first choice.

The beauty of waiting three years or even five years (I usually upgrade every five years) is that when you do upgrade you get a massive boost over what you had. Incrementally upgrading every year will yield you very little at times so it's best to wait and then get something spectacular.

I've been working 30 years. Longer than most of you have been alive.

It's not entitled to choose how I spend my money. It's also not entitled to want the industry that supports my hobby to be healthy and thrive. If the choices of products that support my hobby are reduced to one supplier; why is it "entitled" to get irritated about that?

Some of you throw around these buzzwords like "entitled" and "triggered" and whatever else around and I have to sit back and laugh.

Am I impatient? Perhaps. But answer this question: When's the last time AMD released a card in the high end space? Does one company dominating a sector of said space sound like a healthy industry to you?

Answer those questions and you'll understand my feeling of "entitlement" and "impatience."

As to the rest.......whatever's clever my little "snowflakes." rolleyes.gif

I really want to support AMD since Ryzen... but with these releases they make me want to retract.
