Particularly appalled by the mention of one reviewer using wattman to try and OC a brand new card rolleyes.gif

Then you have the reviewers that only test one or two games, and then declare that's indicative of what performance will be like in every game.

That's why I tend to only read Guru3D and HardOCP. They are pretty thorough.

Guru3D did a fairly nice job, just wish they would have included some bare PCB shots in the product photos section.

Just wish reviewers had more variety. They're all MSI Powercolor and Sapphire high end cards of the 580. I'm more interested in the Sapphire Pulse and the Gigabyte Aorus non XTR right now because of the pricing scheme. Sucks that Amazon doesn't have any more variety either. I'd like to take advantage of my prime cashback points lol.

Agreed, all I was looking forward today was a thorough review of the Gigabyte Aorus XTR. A review running the Nitro+ on the OC bios should be similar however, but I'm more interested in what these higher clocked bios provide for a baseline of performance across a large suite of games. One can dream wink.gif

So it seems the 580 is pretty close in performance to a 290 / 390... some games it performs a few fps better, some worse.

Have AMD just given up on high performance cards? What's going on??

Then again, it is a x80 series card. I don't think AMD will be releasing a x90 card until the 600 series with Navi.

I think I'll wait a week or two until more cards start rolling out in availability, and hoping Vega news later this week.

Checking reviews XFX didn't send any "GTS" to Review probably because might be similar to old Nvidia nomenclature?

True.
It's so ridiculous that my R9 290, which I bought back in freaking 2013 is still pretty much the best AMD has to offer. NVIDIA has pretty much the monopoly on high performance cards and just keep milking it and raising prices..

in most of the reviews put it close or at R9 Fury performance, what is holding back Ellesmere xt is the lower rop count and the bandwidth

Polaris is a mid range part and it is Tongs/Tahiti equivalent
