Even 1080 ti at 1440p is quite over kill. I would trade any day a 1080ti for 1080 and upgrade to get DDR4 with newer gen. In 1 year or so your 1080ti will be replaced by something faster and maybe cheaper. Instead of buying the most expensive GPU, just get the best bang for your buck and upgrade more frequently. That way you can sell your used gpu for more and run with the newest and fastest.

Anyway, to each his own!

I just got my I7 and it's beautiful. Now my 1080 TI is running at 100% while all my cores are around 50% on a 64 player server.... it's running on a 44x multiplier as of right now.

Really happy with my purchase I should be good for a couple more years before I need to upgrade everything.
