Dual X5650 is 2x 6 core cpu right?

Yeah but only if Opteron 1389 has high HT/NB by stock it's this fast... here I'm gonna document fps gains with overclocks... The x5650 x2 is way faster for stuff like encoding and general physics compute tasks by 5-8 times faster than the opteron... 50 fps physics firestrike on dual x5650 but fps in games is limited by PCIe 2.0 ... It does get about 50GB/s memory bandwidth on X5650 x2 on 1333 ECC Buffered registered modules but gaming is only so-so...

This is stock clocks rx 480 on stock opteron 1389 about 32-33fps in this scene... I'll save here to reproduce etc...

Fallout 4 ultra (I know looks horrendous but will mod it up to look nice later) no antialiasing 1080p... nothing special but all the jazz on like NVHBAO and all that stuff... This is like 20 minutes into a fresh game .. didn't talk to robot dude and ran off to pickup Doggy and ran to this rock haha

2900Mhz AMD Opteron 1389
2200/2200 HT/ NB on 16gb 1333 memory at like 9-9-9-24-2T (I'll compare system ram timing fps as well)
1266Mhz AMD RX 480 8gb

I can set my RX480 to the same clocks as yours so we can test the same games with same settings both with stock cpu clocks & overclocked.

Fraps can benchmark your games,it captures low, avg, high fps in a file after benchmark.

What games should we test,we both have to have the same games.

Let's start fallout 4 .. this is game version v1.8.7 not the latest laggy as heck version hahaha ... start new game and do what I did.. just run through as fast as you can and don't talk to Robot Dude whatever his name is? run off pickup Doggy and run to Rock... haha

This is totally factory reference rx 480 bios untouched and all Auto settings in BIOS for voltages/ clocks/ timings etc.

WHQL 17.1.2 as well so I don't know if the latest is better ... I like 17.1.2 as it gives me Fallout 4 5k vsr capabilities

I will install it after i return home from gym & test.

So at what clocks should i set my RX480,core & memory?

Also should i run my X5470 also at stock 3.33GHz?

See if you can match my settings then go for max overclock (2.9Ghz CPU 1333 ram auto everything just turned down multi?) then overclock to max... 4.7Ghz must be faster than my "max" so-to-speak of 3.625Ghz... Though I will test 2750Mhz + on HT/ NB as well...

Do a Firestrike run first to compare just as a preliminary test as is at 4.7Ghz and max GPU overclock...

Over 10,000 in Firestike with both cpu & gpu overclocked.

I guess we wanna see if the FPS is higher in test 1 & 2 ... over 71fps in Test 1 & over 60fps test 2... my most recent Firestrike is not trying for a higher score it was my first run through... if ran over and over scores would go up ... so yeah haha and with AMD Optimized Tesseletion enable and default AMD Settings. On 17.1.2 WHQL.

By the way that first pic was my Custom "Max" config which extended distances on everything to 999 etc to like 99999999 etc so here is default ultra but with no Antialiasing and all the other settings up to max ultra... I am seriously considering a revision.. it looks pretty well horrendous hahahahahaha

Here's default max ultra 1080p without AA and 16 anisotropic filtering

about 37-44fps ps - ReLive screen capture is not good at hot keys it doesn't allow you to set any logical key.. Only illogical...

So it's CTRL + SHIFT + E .... Which CTRL is Crouch saying "Hidden" ...

It's funny if I type to fast on my old Dual Xeon Gallatin Rig dual 3Ghz hyperthreaded xeon's with 3.25GB ram available... and HD 4670 1GB ... I can crash my display driver... and freeze the whole rig and frick it good haha... I guess I'll need to slow er' down.. my fingers that is.. wink.gif

By the way I wish AMD would allow setting Screen Capture Picture and Video hotkeys to be SHIFT + Z & SHIFT + X ... as they are near WSAD and able to be used in action for action shots... rather than fumbling around with Ctrl + Shift + E...

Now here's a direct comparison to default Opteron 1389 to Opteron 1389 at 3.625Ghz : 2.75Ghz HyperTransport / Northbridge Link Rate : 1332Mhz ram DDR3. Stock RX 480 1,266Mhz core & 2,000Mhz memory default bios. To get this HyperTransport & Northbridge link rate, must have optimal for CPU memory controller clock assigned to memory first and known stable at that memory clock timings (Auto for me). Must set Northbridge, Southbridge, CPU Northbridge, and CPU voltage to 1.400 volts. It'll boot right up no issues. Though any higher than 1.400v on Southbridge results in either the RAID not being detected and Freeze or USB failing to detect all together for Mass Storage Devices among other devices. Which is the next step up on this board 1.500v, which everything goes wrong at this voltage. So one step below max is ideal.

44-60 or so in this seen hovering around high 40's to 50's.

If I can give an opinion? The x5650x2 system is probably "so-so" for gaming for 1 or more of the following reasons.
1 2.66 with a Turbo of 3.06 for base clocks.
2 ECC buffered Ram will be slower performing
3 It's already 6C/12T per cpu, Most current games are designed to take advantage of 8/12 cores/threads max. Few take advantage of more then 6/8 cores.
Maybe if you tried the dual cpu unit with your rx480 on something like Starswarm and then tried the other units with the rx480 on Starswarm? (I believe it's the engine used for ashes of the singularity) Here's more on the set-up if interested. P.S. it's a free download on steam. http://www.oxidegames.com/star-swarm/

I love it when I lose what I typed... such a great feeling.

Anyway Dual X5650's on Quad-QPI-Links & Hexa-Channel Ram has 50GB/s memory & 1.1TB/s L1. If it weren't for the PCIe limitation it would not be slow in games. PCIe is like a Coffee Straw trying suck down the Atlantic Ocean... wink.gif

Here's my Opteron data... My Physics score is limited by the temperature of the Chokes & VRM... The Heatsinks scorch I tell you. wink.gif

Which tells me the CPU has 50% more potential if it weren't scorching the Chokes & VRM... Would need to go crazy on the cooling... Or Care more than me...

If I could keep them 50C at load then all good. I feel they near 100C or greater by touch that is... No sensor on chokes.
