If it's 80C at 580's performance that would be nice. Otherwise, sounds scary to me

The RX 480 is only that hot with the reference cooler, so for those I would advise against flashing as the reference cooler is already at its limits; for the RX 580 and RX 570 on the other hand AMD didn't make a card with a reference cooler, so all the models have custom coolers.

Also, the author of the article below makes good points against flashing them. The most problematic cards are probably the reference cooler RX 480s, not only because of the cooler, VRMs load and temps, but also the additional load on the PCIe slot, even with the fixed drivers. AIB cards with an 8-pin connector and custom cooler are probably more resilient, but still caution is the word here.

AMD should just release an official firmware update with the intermediate memory state for the older cards so people can have that benefit without having to risk damaging their cards. They mentioned that a fix was available when they released the RX 400 series cards, so it makes perfect sense to make it officially available.

Sadly I can't remember all the other cards can can be flashed.

Funnily in China there are lots and lots of so called high end cards going for cheap. Like a GTX970 I once saw for 50 USD that had 96 shaders. I wonder how many people fell for that scam.

6800 GS --> 6800 Ultra

I loved that card. NV drivers didn't suck back then.

Or 580, for that matter.

Please dont take my post the wrong way. I do not have any brand loyalty, and I'm ready to buy cards from either side, as long as its good.

In fact, when I was looking to upgrade my card last year, I was looking at the RX480 at first. Needless to say I wasn't very happy about RX 480's launch. GTX1060 came along looking better, so that became my choice.

I don't see how talking about old Nvidia cards is going to help the discussion.
