Rate my build! i5 7600k

Thread Starter
Please rate my build and give me a suggestion on a new power supply to upgrade the one I have is currently from my last rig...almost 8 years old now.

i5 7600k
gigabyte z270xud3
zotac 1070 gtx
patriot viper ddr4 2666
h80i v2
hgst ultrastar 7k4000 2tb
antec earthwatts 750 (previous computer was sli)

Currently debating between the 550w evga g2 or the g3, g2 currently slightly cheaper than the other on newegg through a sale. Are there any noticeable differences between the two?
The G3 is an improved version of the G2 so yes there is a difference, its also a lot smaller then the G2
As for your system you really should get a better CPU cooler because the one you have is not very good.

I don't see a case listed. What will you be building this in? If you're still undecided, I'd recommend looking at some of the cases from Phanteks. They're usually some of the best cases for the money. The Enthoo Pro & Enthoo Pro M particularly stand out as good values.
If the price difference is minimal, go for 3000MHz or 3200MHz RAM instead. Just don't buy anything with a ridiculously large heat spreader.
If you're using a good case, don't buy the H80i V2. You'd be much better off with a good air cooler. Consider something like one of the following:
Phanteks PH-TC14PE
Noctua NH-D15
Noctua NH-D15S
Thermalright Silver Arrow
Thermalright True Spirit 140 Power
Cryorig R1 Ultimate
Cryorig R1 Universal
If your case has plenty of space for the G2, I'd save the money & get it. If you're buying something that would benefit from a shorter PSU, get the G3.
I don't see an SSD on your list. I'd strongly recommend buying one. If you're on a tight budget, just get a 120GB one for your OS & a few programs.

Hey this is all going in/ already in my old R4 Fractal case. I might grab one of those cases still, once the new psu comes in I can use a bunch of old parts to make another PC and give it to my parents. I think they're using a Lenovo running on a celeron. As for SSDs I've never been a fan. I find them expensive and the limited write memory also makes me wary of them. I am curious though how long your SSDs have lasted.

A good SSD can easily last you 4 years or more and they are just as reliable as HDD´s if not more as long as you buy a good quality SSD
If you want to buy an SSD that can last a long time look for one that uses MLC NAND flash instead of TLC NAND flash, the Samsung 850 Pro uses MLC NAND flash if you want an example

I am still using my old Samsung 840 Evo i bought back in august 2013 and its still running fine with no problems, have an even older Corsair SSD in my laptop and that one is at least 6 years old now
Dont believe all those old SSD myths and there is no reason not to get an SSD in 2017 when they are so cheap.

Running windows on a HDD is like driving 45mph on the interstate.

Trying to load a ton of things at once is like your car stalling in the middle of traffic.
