Got it from T-mobile preorder on the 19th.
It feels much faster than the S7 edge. However I do hope for a few improvements for the iris scanner:
1: You need to stay within certain distance to the scanner, and this range is pretty narrow.
2: You must face the screen nearly perpendicularly. So you can't look at your phone at an angle while doing the iris scanning. People usually hold the phone in a way such that your head & the phone surfaces have about 30-ish degree angle instead of directly facing the screen surface. This is a problem partially because the iris scanner is at the top portion of the phone. If our eyes are located at our upper forehead, this would not be a problem...I think moving the iris scanner to the bottom will make it much better.
3: The iris scanner won't work while you are walking. So to unlock the phone while moving, you need to either stop and position your eyes correctly, or use pin or fingerprint scanner instead. I guess this can be solved with a faster scanner.
4: While the phone is locked and in the always-on screen, you can unlock it directly into the home screen using the fingerprint (without seeing the notification screen). To use the iris scanner, you must press some button to go into the notification screen first, then scan to unlock. So the process is not very seemless. An ideal situation is that as soon as you pick up the phone(in the always-on screen state), and look at it, it should scan and unlock you into the home screen. I understand to fully accomplish this, it might require something like always-on iris scanner, but I guess when in the always-on screen state, a setting such as start-iris-scanning-when-gyro-sense-the-phone-is-pick-up would be nice,
For such a new feature, these drawbacks are understandable of course.
