I am considering a vanilla GTX 1080 (not a Ti, not a Titan Xp (or Vista,)) and I am wanting to see how well this works at 4k for a few games. Namely current WoW with all settings maxed out (including the anti-aliasing,) Obduction, or Cities Skylines.
How bad off would I be with this? It would likely be paired with a i7-7700k.
I have been able to play most games at 4k no problems with a single 1080 but not maxed out. Mix of high/ultra settings normally gets you 50-60fps range in most titles. Turn off stuff like AA, Motion blur etc helps a lot.
The only game which I couldn't pull this off with was the latest Deus Ex but maybe that was patched after I stopped playing. Witcher 3 was also demanding but I was getting a 55fps average with high settings which looked really good.
Be sure to get a decent aftermarket 1080 which you can overclock, mine runs at around 2060mhz no problems and will really help push you from the high 40 fps range to 50.
i used to play 4k with my setup and a 980ti without much issues. would have to turn down a few things but it still looked really nice. and AA is not really needed at 4k with a 28-34 inch screen so that helped alot.
Thanks, yeah I figured it would definitely choke on most stuff but I am only really concerned about the more "light" items - such as WoW. If it can do that, I should be fine then.
Running 4k on a 1080FE, and Before that a Pair of 780ti Classies and OG Titans. With the 1080, as long as you don't dial up the AA more than 2X, and step the settings down a touch from the ultimate, you will be more than fine in most games. More demanding ones might need you to step it down to medium, but you will be fine even then.
1080 is in my opinion, the first Card I think that was honestly Single Card Ready for 4K gaming, within reason.
