I always remembered something ages ago when I was building. You buy for what you need now. With a market as unpredictable as PCs and gaming (especially now), if you keep waiting for the latest thing, you'll never have a computer. Buy one component, keep it for a while, and upgrade as needed. Not because the next thing came out and gives you 10 more frames in your game, so you must buy it. I thought many people did the same. It seems like many people seem to forget this. The complaints I seem to hear now is that when something better comes along mere months after the release of the "next big thing" and it makes some people angry. While it's understandable, it's also unnecessary.

Volta is not a Pascal refresh. Pascal was a Maxwell refresh + shrink biggrin.gif

Nvidia can go to hell for all i care. People keep playing their game, keep purchasing their cards so they keep milking XD
simple as that..

and between 1060 and 480 is a no brainer the 480 is a better overall card and it will age better XD

im not quoting everybody XD

Maybe your airflow is just really bad.

Did Nvidia say 1080 would be 60C load? I doubt that, since temp target is 84C or so, and it will boost higher if temp is that low.

They showed up on the presentation 2126 clocks with 67c on the founders.
Then reviews came up and it was hot as hell and a throttling mess lol

here, where nvidia announced the 1080 to the world XD
Nvidia fastest clock on the world cool as a cucumber lmao

Exactly this. Titan prices wouldn't be what they are now if people didn't keep shelling out the money for them.

LOL... thumb.gif

I would love Titan Xp performance, but at $1200... lol nope! My 1070 manages to give acceptable frame rates at 4K with tweaked settings. That makes much more sense to me than paying $1200 so I can max at every settings (some of which may or may not even make that much of a visual difference!). I have no issue waiting 6-12 months for that level of performance for 1/3 of the price.

I just hope gtx 2080 at stock will be slightly above a max overclocked txp at less than half the price.

Still pretty damn expensive though.

"To counter AMDs Vega products" O_o

Pascal is much more efficient than Polaris.

AMD will at best match Nvidia here with Vega. Certainly not suddenly move way ahead of Kepler in power efficiency.
Vega is looking to be faster than GTX 1080 but slower than 1080Ti.

When Volta brings even better performance than current Pascal cards and better efficiency, why should Nvidia rush with Volta when AMD doesnt look like a threat now or with Vega?

If I should guess, Q1 2018 seems more reasonable and let Titan Xp stay relevant for another half year

Wise words here. I'm done with SLi pretty much (Titan X Maxwell were the last pair I owned), running a single TXp now and very happy with it. Technically I'm spending a lot less on GPUs now (-$800) and I'm happier than I was with the 2 OG T-X cards. If AMD gave me a reason to buy their high-end offering I'd do it in a heartbeat. I've owned 5850, 5970 (the dual GPU card) and 6970 AMD cards. I fully realize that not everyone can afford 10 core intel HEDT CPUs or a TXp, that's not the point here. I guess my point is; get the best you can afford to fulfill your needs now, like Aura said. Don't wait and don't have regrets. If you have regrets you probably spent more than you should have in the first place.

Would be cool if they released a faster card than the 1080 Ti this year... Really hope VEGA achieves at least parity with Pascal; we could really use some actual competition above the $350 price point

If it has full support for DP specs I will consider it, otherwise no thanks NV you don't even support fully the output port specifications after many years.
As far as pricing goes, good luck NV to milk everyone long term with $400+ GPUs, if NV doesn't launch every year a new product line their shipments go down and with these prices I don't expect people to buy a new GPU for $400+ very often, making the problem with declining shipments even worse for NV. They seem to be pushing hard to professional use again, to counter the loss in consumer line, but AMD is doing the same in a way, giving NV competition even there.
If they launch in 2017, it's probably gonna be just another Maxwell refresh a Voxwell.
