will a 6850k work with my asus deluxe x99 mobo?

hey guys, so im upgrading my pc little by little because money doesnt grow on trees and I was wondering if a 6850k would work with my current mobo: asus x99 deluxe. I current have a 5820k. if it does work, do I just remove my current cpu and insert the new cpu and all is well, or are there a few more steps involved? thanks

i wanna upgrade because of the PCI-e lanes, and the 5930k is just as expensive so I might as well get the newer of the cpus without replacing my mobo. i would like to sli because I just bought a 1080ti, and down the road i'll most likely buy another 1080ti and newer monitor wit higher res.

Yup, same socket (2011-V3). My only advice would be to upgrade to the latest BIOS before you even think about putting in the 6850k, assuming yours is the normal X99 Deluxe:- https://www.asus.com/uk/Motherboards/X99DELUXE/HelpDesk_CPU/
If your BIOS isn't 3004, chances are it won't boot until it's updated. Otherwise, you're dandy. thumb.gif

[EDIT] Is the only reason for upgrading CPU's because you want to run SLI? On PCI-E 3.0 the difference between x8 and x16 is negligible unless you run benchmarks:- http://www.gamersnexus.net/guides/2488-pci-e-3-x8-vs-x16-performance-impact-on-gpus
If however you have other things occupying the PCI-E lanes, like M.2./PCI-E SSD and Sound Card etc, then you may want the extra lanes.

[EDIT2] Slightly more relevant linky:- https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Titan-X-Performance-PCI-E-3-0-x8-vs-x16-851/

It will work until it eventually dies and takes the CPU with it, the Deluxe way thumb.gifbiggrin.gif

Yes the 6850k will work, but you will need to update to the latest BIOS. The extra PCIE lanes will help too. We now have top tier cars (like your 1080Ti) that can actually saturate a 3.0 x 8 slot. Given the gains aren't mind blowing, yet, but it will be nice in case you want to add something like an M2 drive later.

Ah, I see. Well I doubt performance is neither that much better compared to the 5820k? Yeah I wanted both x16 x16, but if the difference is like 1fps i mean im just wasting money then.
