Which is exactly why they toned down the amount of levelution in newer BF games. So cover, you know, exists.

COD really needs to at least step out of its tiny little box and add vehicle combat, larger maps, more objectives...they can always have a typical deathmatch mode with killstreaks and all that other nonsense, along side the newer gameplay elements..but that would require effort, and innovation, and the COD dev's just can't see past the cash-grab $$$ signs...

So, CoD needs to be more like Battlefield and ditch the things that obviously draw in its fanbase.

Hundreds? I don't so... you have WW1, WW2, both of which are far enough apart to have some unique weapons and settings.

Korea and viet nam have very similar weapons and vehicles, differing geography.

Then you have modern warfare. Thats basically 4 different time periods to choose from.

Kinda interested, regardless of the name that somehow is actually worse than "Battlefield: 1". Just to see how a publisher that's forced to innovate shows.

Actually really stoked about this! COD 2 is still my favorite entry in the series and though they've become a punchline over the years, COD 2 was a really good game. I've been waiting for years to finally get to play a modern AAA WWII game since modern warfare became all the rage way back before we had anything like the hardware we have today. Bring on the second coming of the WWI and WWII renaissance I say!

Stop saying this! Both the COD and BF franchises should spend more time on the SP campaigns as more people would be interested in them if they weren't just glorified training sessions for the MP and overall afterthoughts. BFBC2 did the FPS SP campaign brilliantly and I don't know many people that didn't play and enjoy it (even those who claim to only care about MP). Besides, games based on historical events work much better as campaigns with actual story lines than they do as MP where its just mindless running and gunning the whole time. The BF1 campaign was actually pretty decent but just so short and underdeveloped. Had it been about 3-4 times as long and in-depth I think a lot of people would have been more impressed.

Really, if all you care about is MP then what difference does it really even make what the setting is?

All the wars over 100 years old won't consist of any significant differences other than scenery. One could argue that the greek and roman use of catapults changed the battlefield, but from a gameplay perspective there just isn't much to talk about. So I side with the OP on the limited versions of historical battle available.

Perhaps it would be useful to combine some reasonable historical weaponry and develop a whole new fictitious war, then build a game around that.

Or perhaps Activision could go further with Capt. Prices' repeated appearances in (all?) of the COD games from WW2 to MW/BLOPS. eg: You play as a Spartan by the name of the Τιμή (Greek for Price) and then in the next segment of the game, you play as a solider in another era as the descendant of Spartan Price etc etc till MW era.
