I'd say COD is a projectile FPS and there were lots of projectile weapons in the 1200's/1300's. Both handheld and otherwise.

Actually, it could take a series in a MUCH more interesting and different direction by focusing more on melee weapons. Maces, broadswords, daggers, etc.

Sounds like fun to me. yessir.gif

So long as its not from Activision and it doesn't have the COD brand on it, I'm all for it.

"HERNANDEZ GET ON THE DAMN HORSE"

"CAVALRY INBOUND"

...is what we'll end up with if that ever comes to pass. In the meantime, BF1 does horseback combat pretty nicely.

Most of the big set pieces have been done to death already. Are they capable of mixing it up?

Edit: Haven't seen COD go anywhere with the Second Sino-Japanese War yet. COD World at War covered Japan, but only from an American perspective.

I played 3+ hours a day of CoD 4, WaW, MW2, then BO which was the last CoD I was interested in. The series really went to crap after MW2 and it didn't feel that fun anymore.

So I moved onto BFBC2, BF3, BF4, and now I'm feeling like BF1 isn't that good so I don't play the BF series anymore. BF1 is so basic, that it's not fun and I shut it off after an hour. I could play BF3 all day for over 8 hours and still have fun so there is something seriously boring about it.

Since then, I'v been chewing through games trying to find a new game to seriously get into but still haven't found it. I really hope this CoD can get me into the game again, but I have my doubts after all this robot jet pack crap.

I really hope they come out with dedicated servers, but limit it to how BF4 was so people aren't adding custom player sizes for maps that can't handle it or stupid mods injected into the game. All the old CoD servers were 64 player on these tiny maps so you were literally spawning on top of each other, and it really killed it for me. I prefer the 8v8 style of play the consoles have.

Actually, featuring it during that war could take a series in a MUCH more interesting and different direction by focusing more on melee weapons. Maces, broadswords, daggers, etc.

#3. Effectively had a death toll of nearly 300,000,000, making it the most deadly war to date. It's known as the biggest mass killing in human history.

#4. United China for the first time ever and unified Russia.

#5. Pioneered revolutionary military techniques/technology/strategies that had never been seen at the time and are still used today.

Etc, etc. Those are just a few cliff notes. And that's not even getting into the countless other political and social effects it had on the world at the time.

There isn't a single event in human history that had a bigger impact than that war.

Ever.

And yet, no developer has ever made a full fledged AAA game about it. kookoo.gif

A game based around that would sell like hot cakes.

Yeah, Creative Assembly making that into a Total War title would be amazing, but it's obvious that an FPS game would work best with wars from modern history. Why pick a more significant war if it won't fit with the gameplay style of the franchise?

You have to consider their audience, or, specifically, the gameplay that attracts their audience.

You have to ask yourself what is at the absolute core of a Call of Duty game. To me, it's fast paced FPS combat that isn't difficult to initially grasp, and since MW, a focus on large action set-pieces. It's what the single and multiplayer are built upon and frankly, unless they were to take extreme liberties with a pre 16th century setting, I just don't think it can facilitate the type of gameplay they consider essential.

The idea sounds pretty interesting though.

ww1 already done by Verdun and BF1, ww2 done like, infinity times over...

Vietnam war, kinda of done in Black ops 1, and some BF expansion pack.

But honestly, a war before WW1 FPS is doable, a lot of the early semi-auto pistols and rifles, somewhat to a degree were done in the 1890s and 1900s.

Something like the Boer Wars., perfect example. Mostly bolt-actions and some semi-auto pistols, not sure if semi auto rifles (if any, in very rare numbers and prototypes) and there ya go, 1900s FPS!
