Base clock vs boost clock when OCing

Thread Starter
Ryzen 5 1600 arriving at my door earlier next week. Looking at all the bigger parts and boxes waiting in my office is driving me nuts, so I'll fill the time with practical questions...

Planning to OC to, let's say, 3.6-3.8GHz. A modest bump without going nuts on power draw. Do I get to control what the single core boost clock goes up to or does it just boost to whatever it can given its thermal state? Ideally I would mimic the 1600X and have it at a 3.6 base with 4.0 boost, but I have no idea if that's possible and can't find it through searches here or the Googles. I know I could have just gotten the X version but I wanted the Wraith Spire cooler and the $30 discount.

As I've mentioned I'm new at this so I appreciate your help and patience. So far this has been a great forum to bounce around in. thumb.gif

Many YouTube reviewers do live OC'ing of RyZen so you can check them out.

You might also pick up some pointers from here, even though it is a RyZen 7 guide:
