$275 RX 580 Nitro+ 4GB vs $285 RX 480 Gaming X 8GB vs $350 R9 Fury (Strix/Sapphire)

Hi guys,

I'm making a mid-range/budget build for a friend focused on 1080p ultrawide gaming (2560x1080). My plan was to pair the R5 1600 with Sapphire Nitro+ RX580 4GB for some future proofing and being able to run that ultrawide at >60FPS as I will be picking up 75H monitor. All was good, but recently I came across some heavy discounted R9 Fury cards - both Asus Strix and Sapphire Tri-X models which I can get for ~$70 more. The prices are higher since I'm in Europe. I could also get RX 480 Gaming X if I needed more VRAM for the same price, but I dont think I do and 580 will likely go higher on core. 580 Nitro+ 8GB would be just $20 less then R9 Fury and then Id go for the Fury.

Do you guys think its worth the extra money? On paper R9 fury should be a bit faster, but I'm not sure how much than this 1411MHz Nitro+ (or if I overclock it to ~1440-1450 vs ~1100MHz on R9). The other factor for me is the noise - the R9 coolers are good, but they have to handle more heat. Or would you pick up the 8GB Gaming X?

Basically my brain is telling me its not worth it, but my heart loves the discount biggrin.gif. Any thoughts appreciated!!! Thanks!

I'd only value the RX 580 at most $220 (250 Euro after VAT). That's what top tier 8GB RX 480s such as the XFX GTR and ASUS STRIX were going for ; GTX 1060 6GB are going for € 260. In fact the only change for the RX 580 GTR I think is the color of the fan, BIOs, and additional power connector.

The Fury is a tricky situation. I think the Sapphire Tri-x isn't that noisy as the STRIX but that's largely due to fan profile. The Fury is about 20% faster.

I'd wait for more news on Vega honestly : it's not worth paying the prices asked for either of them.

Unfortunately those are the prices that we have here in my country - believe me, it doesn't go bellow that. I spent a lot of time looking for deals smile.gif. I cannot get 1060 as Im getting them a FreeSync monitor. Plus its a gift for a birthday so I can't wait for Vega.

I also have a white build and GTR is too expensive in our country >300EUR. I'm still thinking - I hate these dilemmas biggrin.gif
