Dead 5930k

Questions

My 5930k died a while back and I want to learn how to avoid this happening again
It was in a Asus x99 A II board (has the oc socket) running 4.7 at 1.26 volt
Custom loop and never saw over 56c under any stress testing or normal use was under 32c
The Corsair Vengeance DDR 4 3000!LED ram was running 1.2 volts 2667
Strap was 100
Evga platinum 1000 watt power Supply
EVGA GTX 1070 FTW
Samsung 950 m.2 512
Windows 10 pro

I have read several instances of the Asus boards with this type of socket spiking CPU voltage or that is what users are claiming

Am I missing something

This is the thread in question:

Even under a custom loop, your CPU can die if there is a voltage spike on the order of 1.6V Vcore - enough to instantly fry a CPU. It's the voltage that kills the CPU - not the heat. Current draw can also play a big role in frying CPUs.

Thus far, I do not believe that Asus has addressed the issue or even acknowledged that there is a problem.

As far as how to avoid, some are saying the refreshed Broadwell E X99 Asus boards don't have the issue, but it's clear that considering your Asus X99 A2 killed your chip, I'd say the only fix is to move away from Asus. So you will have to consider buying another brand of X99 board. I'd RMA the CPU to Intel too. They should honor the warranty.

Thanks for the reply
I have a new 5930K being delivered tomorrow from Intel

During my trouble shooting Amazon replaced the board due to the total lack of support from Asus
The Amazon rep did a 3 way call to Asus with me and after a hour of double talk and being placed on hold multiple times
The Amazon rep just decided we should hang up and he sent a brand new board and paid to have the original shipped back.

I am going to see if they will just replace it with something else maybe a Asrock X99 Taichi Tweak Town did a nice review of it and it is around the same money and would match my build

I read most every post in that other thread having found it after my original post

Hello

What about the cache voltage ? System agent ? those can kill any Hw-E chip over time...

also Asus board kill many Hw-E cpu's.. its fact thumb.gif

How long did the RMA process take? Was it the upgraded OC coverage they offer?

I have a 5930K I need to RMA...

Cache voltage was never tweaked nor was system agent voltage

I manually set voltage to 1.26 and all cores 4.7
Ram was set manually to 2667 1.3 volt
Idle temperatures was usually 25c and loaded 47c

I put it in sleep mode and the next day dreaded 00 code

That sucks it died. At least you had the protection plan. I have had the ITP on my last 3-4 CPU's but never used it. And I have never been afraid to try put some voltage to get the desired clocks.
