AM4 EK Full Nickel block temp issue

Hi,

I'm on the crosshair VI board and have used the EK AM4 Full Nickel waterblock to cool my CPU. This is the block that mounts on the stock backplate of the CH6, I have the feeling my temps are a little too high. So I am now wondering if I need to tighten my screws on the wb more. In the instruction manual here: https://www.ekwb.com/shop/EK-IM/EK-IM-3831109800478.pdf

It says the following:
Quote:
Tighten the screws with your thumbs until
you reach the end of the thread, preferably
by tightening two thumb screws at a...

I don't think I really tightened it until the end of the thread, just like with the intel block, I tightened it until it felt the resistance was big enough. My question now is: would it hurt to try to tighten it as much as possible with only my hands?

Cheers!

I have the same motherboard and block. There wasn't a lot of resistance while screwing it down (in a star pattern) and it should be pretty obvious once you've reached the end of the thread as they'll be turning freely and then suddenly hit a wall.

I'd back the screws off a little and re-tighten them to see if you can feel them bottom out. If you're feeling a lot of resistance then maybe something isn't sitting right. You shouldn't need to be putting in lots of strength to tighten them and they're designed to reach the end of the thread to avoid over tightening.

Out of curiosity - what processor, clocks, voltages and temperatures are you seeing?

I too feel like they're a notch too high on my 1700 (3.82GHz, 1.248V, Supreme HF Cu - getting about 67C under load).

I have a 1700, right now I've been running Prime95 blend for 2 hours at 3900 @ 1.425v with no LLC (with vdroop 1.37~1.4v) and the CPU temp is varying between 52-55c. IBT max runs hotter at around 61c and pushes the volts down more than Prime95 to a pretty consistent 1.37v.

Sense Mi skew is disabled and water temp is 30c. I also used Gelid extreme instead of the included thermal grizzly stuff, mainly because I already had a tube of Gelid extreme open but I wouldn't expect any measurable difference from that.

Hmm... Not too different to mines at those voltages and clocks. What board do you have? Also, I'm using a single 360mm for the CPU and the GPU - water temperature is approx 34C idling, haven't checked load but I'd imagine somewhere around 39-40.

That's a whole lot lower than OP's and mines. From the way you're overclocking - I guess you have a CHVI?

Interesting. I was wondering if you had a Gigabyte board (just taking a very wild guess as to why they might be so wildly different).

What's your coolant temperature?
