Its not his job to lie either. Perhaps Vega is the same ballpark as the 1080TI instead of being a contender for the 1080

All he said is 'looks nice'.

That means absolutely nothing at all.

I'm just being cautious because of what happened with Fury, they hyped HBM1 and really... it wasn't that great but then again it was brand new tech, hopefully with HBM2 and new architecture they've learnt and it can actually compete with the 1080Ti (like everyone expects) or even Volta (which is clearly what there aiming for).

One thing I'm curious about is why Nvidia has pushed Volta's release date up...

There's a huge difference between not being "great" in single threaded tasks, and being able to clock to 5ghz. Single threaded performance is fantastic, and within single digit percentages of KL clock for clock, it's just a shame gen one zen has the clock limitations it does. Just saying... big difference.

At this point, the success of Vega will probably come down its' pricing. Until they ditch the GCN arch, I'm not expecting any miracle performance leaps. If they can hit somewhere between the 1070 and 1080 with a cut down version, and somewhere close to the gen 1 Titan XP with big vega, I'll be grabbing whatever one I can afford.

"Nice" is the absolute minimal adjective that anyone in marketing would use about a new product.

AMD didn't hype up Zen as much as BD, and it's turned out to be a decent processor considering its price, performance, etc. As I recall, they didn't hype up Vega that much either, at least its performance. Time will tell.

EDIT: At least, he didn't compare it to GTX1070/1080. So, nice in relation to GTX1080 Ti/Titan Xp should be good? Well, we've speculating Vega performance since the Doom demo; counting the LEDs, and whatnot.

The reason he compared it to the 1080ti and Titan X was because the question directly mentioned them and nothing else. I'm sure he would have said the performance compared to the 1060 / 1070 is nice if those were the examples used in the question.

In other words, this doesn't mean anything. A RX 480 is nice compared to a Titan X too, because it costs $1000 less and does decent but that doesn't make it something I want to use.

Why would this be news? Or even a rumor. Its just like the other guy about Fury "Its going to be an overclocker's dream" rolleyes.gif

Let's also remember AMD has a history of over hyping a lot of products...

Name one product in the last ten years that they "over-hyped" their consumers about. Every major "failure" that AMD put out was due to the community buttering up something that was never meant to be such. Not once did AMD pull an Intel with blatantly wrong marketing and attempt to screw everyone over.

He said "really nice", so it's a notch above minimum lol.

In any case, they will be faced with their own previous marketing on Vega when interpreting these vague statements. Remember this:
