In any case, they will be faced with their own previous marketing on Vega when interpreting these vague statements. Remember this:

Ha thanks for posting this.

I always wanted to know where AMD's 'poor volta' shot was fired from, but could never be bothered to find out.

This is official AMD material of course? So maybe they have something to compete with the 1080 Ti after all...

Didn't say Vega needs to be the same jump as Ryzen, but you damn well know you would take it as quick as any of us if it were true!

EDIT:

Hell, another 290X would be great as the 290X still kicks ass and was the best GPU in the last 10 years.

No problem. thumb.gif

And yes, it's as official as it gets. Here it is from the link for future reference:

By very nice do they actually mean 12-18% slower, because that's where the estimates have it landing right now. Surely, we all want these estimated figures to be wrong, but, how do you demo a card that is as fast as a GTX 1080 in Doom, maybe 10% faster. Then, suddenly, three months later it is competing with a 1080 Ti and a Titan Xp...

How can you estimate the performance of a new architecture? ph34r-smiley.gif

Especially if it has a tiled based rasterizer wink.gif

Oh the demo of a really early sample...

Just wait for benchmarks

I hope this is true, 1080ti performance for $399 would be awesome.

By new do you mean GCN 5th Generation?

So they gain 18% increase in performance from a Tiled Based Rasterizer? Sure it was early, but not that early. Vega is coming, what, sometime in May? Had to be pretty close to final results. Of course they could be sandbagging, but that seems like something you wouldn't want to do when demonstrating a card's performance from a PR standpoint. Negative PR is not good PR. These technologies (and assuming the engineering sample wasn't at finalized clockspeeds) like the HBCC and the Draw Stream Binning Rasterizer can surely bring it closer to a 1080 Ti or Titan Xp, but it still would fall short by about 12%. Does that add up to the statements, kind of. However, it has to be priced much better than a 1080 Ti in order for it to seem like a better deal and with it carrying HBM2 it will be difficult for it to be much cheaper than those cards.

Of course I will wait for benchmarks, I just don't want to see people getting upset again like the 1600MHz RX 480 rumors. That whole ordeal was ridiculous, because multiple websites were promoting the concept and I see numerous websites along with Youtubers pushing this story of how it will compete with a 1080 Ti / Titan Xp.

I want it to compete with a 1080 Ti as much as the next guy, and for a good price because that means that I get a 1070 competitor for a good price, but I do not want to be disappointed again like others were with the Polaris launch.

So many of you are bagging on the guy for saying something without actually saying anything.
But, he got ya'll talking about it.
Mission accomplished.
Marketing 101.

if it's a disappointment, Id want to be disappointed now rather than later.

6 weeks is nothing for me given how patient I am riding on mid-range GPUs from half a decade ago.

but I am one to do it right, I am not like most members here who buy and sell cards every 18 months.

I still stand by what I said; teasing us for months with the box and packaging, a name, a video with catch phrases, "it's nice against the 1080 Ti" claim, all of this are not helping those who are waiting. It just reminds me of typical AMD hype trains that falls flat on their face like the Bulldozer generation or Fury X. Everytime I read Vega related threads someone on here say they are fed up and going NVidia. At least when Nvidia teases they'll do acountdown clock a week before and doesn't put out any smoke.

So why's Vega holding back? Would a team working on driver optimization be able to increase 1080 levels to that of 1080Ti/Titan X/Titan Xp in weeks? Doubt it.

Amd is really REALLY lucky that the 290's were such solid cards. I've had 2 of them in x-fire on an Intel 2600k o/c system that still eats the games I play even at 3440 res. I'm just about ready to dump those furnaces and come back to find out that they haven't really done much since I bought them almost 4 years ago. nVidia has monster cards as usual and we're waiting for AMD to play catch up again (over a year behind at this point). They're lucky I'm not chomping at the bit or I would be adding a 1080 to my cart today.
