ASUS ROG GTX 1080 Ti Poseidon - Page 3

Cryptocurrency is more of an ATI thing. Also I doubt people would be buying Poseidons for it either.

Would one of you all do me a favor and upload the posiden bios to techpowerup? Im running the XOC bios on air and while it can be done I want my fan speeds a little lower. Regardless if any one thinks it wont help with my strix OC I would still like to try it. Thank you

XOC is great but I am looking for a bios that can give me %130 TDP with out being fully unlocked for heat reasons. I belive I have tried them all except this one.

I doubt anyone who expects to actually acquire bitcoins would try mining with GPU cards vs. dedicated ASIC units nowadays.

However, mining ethereum and SIA and other less influential cryptocurrencies will likely remain popular due to their added versatility. With that being said, it seems like the go to Nvidia card is the 1070, and possibly later on with revisions/optimization to mining software, the 1060, for ethereum mining. The 1080s (especially the water cooled ones) have escaped some of the cryptocurrency fervor due to their relatively lower price to performance ratio in terms of processing power for mining.

With that being said, they are back in stock at Newegg and I have one on the way! thumb.gif

Now, I will have to figure out how to stuff that big boy into my Corsair 600T. I can't believe the thing is almost a foot long (insert 'That's what she said' jokes). Haha

Cheers,
John

Just saw this Aorus 1080ti with waterblock pre-installed and I'm trying to compare that to the 1080ti Poseidon (https://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-GV-N108TAORUSX-WB-11GD-GeForce-Waterforce/dp/B07317H6CK/ref=sr_1_6?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1501772759&sr=1-6&keywords=1080+ti)

What are your thoughts on which is better? I had heard that the copper piping is good on the Poseidon, but not as good of cooling as a proper custom waterblock. That said, the fans were a nice backup feature if something went wrong.

Which would you get, if you could do it over again (Aorus is about $10-$20 cheaper, not that it matters at this price point): the Aorus (with block installed) or the 1080 ti Poseidon?

The Gigabyte AORUS GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Waterforce WB Xtreme Edition would be suitable if one has the Gigabyte motherboard or orange theme build. The Gigabyte card is also thinner than Asus due to no fan arrangement. Takes up two slots instead of three. It will be a personal choice on which one looks better than the other.

Performance wise, they will be similar.

You're paying the extra ($10-$20) for a backup fan protection if the water cooling fails. I would take this as additional insurance for the system.

I think that's the correct way to look at it, I'll go the Poseidon route - thanks steveting99.

Just got my card in the mail last night, going to hook it up to the loop soon.

There are 4 ports on the water block, can you use any 2 or does it have to be a specific combination to be optimal? I saw JJ from Asus use top left/bottom right and then JayzTwoCents use both top ports.
