So... it appears that for the patient there's not much reason to get the new Dell HDR monitor aimed at creative professionals as this Acer will offer all that does, plus the 144hz and other gaming technologies.

And for the same price!

Yeah, but it also includes that stupid "gaming" design.

And threads with Asus/Acer return logs seem scary.

They could focus on making current stuff not actually suck. Instead, they seem to be creating bigger and better monitors that few people can even buy, let alone drive. My checklist for a good monitor:

24" Full HD or 27" 1440p
144hz with G-Sync, Freesync (preferably both)
IPS or VA
No curve
Tilt, Pivot, all that jazz (I like to play shmups, for example)
A flat stand (sadly, height can be at a premium)
No speakers (if you're buying this type of monitor, you already have a decent soundsystem)

Most importantly of all: Good QC!
yeah, such a monitor with good QC would sell like hot cakes. However, the simple reason why we don't have such a monitor is because nobody except for AUO knows how to make fast IPS screens and nobody at all makes flat VA screens.

Closest to the above would be the upcoming CHG70, but it's obviously curved frown.gif
post #25 of 113
I could only maybe accept a curve on an ultra-wide, but otherwise it's just a silly gimmick.

I would have bought MG279Q a long time ago if it wasn't for the top-notch quality control. I've bought an EIZO FS2333 years ago and there's just nothing topping it, unless I decide to go for a higher resolution. Maybe I should...

I think the point of skipping over 1440p is that it isn't worth skimping on pixel count on something like this. If they could save $300 by going 1440p over 4k, it still isn't worth it. No one wants a $1700 1440p screen so you may as well go for the next monitor resolution that will be standard within a couple years.

Just like when we started seeing 1440p emerge when all we had was GTX 680 / AMD 7970's that could barely drive them but 2 years later it wasn't an issue. Considering you won't need MSAA on a monitor with 162PPI, you can probably get more into the 80+ FPS range with everything else ultra setting on current hardware. If volta can pull another 15-30% increase at 4k then there's nothing to worry about.

I know it's extremely expensive, but allot of people can justify spending this money on tech when you sit in front of it for several hours a day. I probably make less than any other average person and I can still afford this monitor with smart budgeting and spending habits.

Given you're from the US, yep.

But try smart budgeting and spending habits in Eastern Europe, the "soviet' side. You know, where an Engineer earns 700$ per month tongue.gif

Interesting, noted it was running at 98 Hz. Pre-production model though of course.

running squad on x271hu gets me about 120fps ultra on some maps right now. at 4k i know that would drop. would it be possible to adjust resolution to 2560x1440 on this if i wanted to get higher frame rates? basically would i have to option to go back and forth if i wanted to until a single gpu could run this in the future? took omen down and have been using xb27 for the sole purpose of seeing if i can get use to a 27" screen cuz of this badboy. 1 week in and im enjoying gaming on the 27. just not everything else 34-35 is a perfect size and fills up 84" desk well.
