Question about D5 pump speed

Thread Starter
Hello, I just put together my very first custom loop using all EK parts, im having a bit of a problem controlling the pump speed on my D5. I have the pwm connector hooked up along with the molex connector and with that combo the pump just runs 100% no matter what I do with speedfan. If I unplug the molex connector the pump doesn't run at all, am I doing something wrong?

Do you have this ?

molex : is for power, you must connect it directly to the PSU, obviously without power the pump will not run...
4pin : is for tachymetric and PWM signal, you should connect it to a 4pin fan header on the motherboard or to a PWM-compatible rheobus
without PWM signal the pump will run at 100% (some model 70-80%)

not all motherboard are compatible with speedfan control, try from bios

Your fan is running at 100% because that is the default behavior when it isn't receiving a PWM signal through the PWM connector.

I second the BIOS fan control -- this is how I control my PWM D5. From 25°C to 50°C it ramps up from 50% to 70%, from 50°C to 75°C it ramps up from 70% to 90%, and over 75°C it runs at 100% (my CPU has never been above 73°C so the pump has never been at 100%).

Make sure your connecting to a true PWM header alot of boards now days have 4 pin connectors but not all are really pwm have to check your motherboard manual to be sure where to plug it into, CPU header is almost always a real pwm plug.

Thank you guys for the help, once I went into the bios I figured out what I was doing wrong with speedfan! It now works great!
