Another way Vega could make things bad for Volta is if Volta gets its performance boost over Pascal with double fp16, but Vega already has that so the gimping would only happen to Pascal, Maxwell and Kepler. That could be another "poor Volta".

I wonder how much longer this Vega fuss can keep going on.
Highest? Its
I n line with AMD's expectations of Volta given the significance of its Poor Volta ad. That should be one worthy of the hype prize, or whatever you're suggesting.

If they intend to challenge Volta it's going to need to be 1080 Ti speed at least, since mid-range Volta is likely to be that fast. AMD has no one to blame but themselves for people expecting it to compete with Volta.

And I'd expect the fuss to continue for about 2 more months, since it's probably a late-June release.

No idea how it's going to perform? Are you sure? See below.

Then you've missed the video and numerous posters that tpi posted a page back. While they have been silent so far, the poster is a shot across the bow on a grand scale given Volta is a huge target. Its hype no matter how you put it

Not only that, but this is the latest, as in last month:

In an AMA (ask me anything) session with Tom's Hardware community, AMD desktop processor marketing exec Don Woligrosky answered a variety of AMD Ryzen platform related questions. He did not shy away from making a key comment about the company's upcoming high-end graphics card, Radeon Vega, either. "Vega performance compared to the Geforce GTX 1080 Ti and the Titan Xp looks really nice,"

AMD arent hyping Vega in any way, shape or form. There are people hounding for information and then when an AMD personel makes a simple comment like 'it performs nice', it is the opportunity certain folks are waiting for to claim it as AMD hyping the product. lol its quite comical really. At least thats what ive been noticing and i follow it pretty closely. As for 'poor Volta', maybe its AMD taking a dig at Nv for delaying it 2 or more years. Wasnt that on the roadmap for 2015 originally? Its quite possible that Nv went back to the drawing board for Volta because there was problems with the design, hence the long delay. I dont think its going to be much of a leap over pascal anyway. AMD has a good opportunity with Vega against Pascal IMO, and even Volta as i dont expect anything significant from that part. Anyway we'll know before the end of Q2.

It's in line with only one way of looking at the expectations. What if Vega10 is only slightly better than 1080ti and Volta is Pascal with double fp16? The couple of second easter egg in an ad might just have been marketing to get people talking and putting off buying Pascal. Most aren't going to care enough about it to let it be the overriding principle in their purchasing decision.

I agree, but I don't want to hear anymore about Vega's release date moving further away. mad.gif We are so close to the end of May, the end of June sounds terrible.

You have a loose definition of close. smile.gif

Apparently Liquidsky has been using Vega for their game cloud streaming services since March. According to a post on Anand. Anyone check it out? The client crashes immediately for me.

It is not passively cooled. It requires airflow, but the fans are not mounted on the card.

I don't know who you are referring to, but I'm not claiming that they are hyping Vega.

On the other hand, contrary to what some are saying, they aren't quiet either. Answering a direct and clear question about how it performs compared to the 1080 Ti and Titan Xp is putting a performance bar on the table whether you admit it or not. Let's get the record straight on this. They aren't hyping it, but they are mentioning the ballpark.

But what are you comparing it to, what are the alternatives? If there are none then its not disappointing unless you had unrealistic expectations
