How about running a stress test and recording the temps?

There are several suggested test in the Skylake Overclocking thread.

Personally, I find Intel BurnTest using maximum memory very effective at determining the highest CPU temps, without being too aggressive.

Also, might I suggest using HWiNFO for monitoring.

but is 72c an ok temp for my cpu at gaming ? that's what i'd like to know
post #6 of 29
I have a feeling a stress test would push you into the 90's. My temps are never that high while gaming in anything.

If you want to be cautious I would test it. It's possible the vendor you bought your computer from is using heavy voltage for that overclock and you might be able to dial it back a bit.
Or could be related to cooler. Or a number of other things if you really want to get into it.

Of course if that's as high as it gets and gaming is all you do it's probably not a big deal..

Should it be lower? Yes. Is that temp going to damage the CPU? No.

Like Dyer said, that temp is fine if gaming is the most stressful thing you do.

ok thanks guys. i will ring scan computers and find out what they say about it. i could try removing the dust filters when playing too. i have a nzxt h440 case so i might need to give it more air flow ?

ive also got a msi GTX 1070 GAMING X 8G card releasing hot air into my case which i guess isn`t helping

Don't do that, they're there for a reason. Cleaning out a few dust filters every 3 months is way easier than disassembling the entire system and taking it outside with compressed air because there is dust caked onto and inside of everything
