As of now all DRM were broken under the pressure, if a movie comes out in 4k it will get onto the net in original quality. And there was many cases where DRM posed a huge security risk(im looking at you securom). They basically throw out money on these short lived stopgap measures instead of riding the waves and deliver what the consumer wants...rolleyes.gif The harder they try the more they loose.

storing and compressing the source file losless takes quite some effort.

This particular DRM is implemented by Nvidia themselves. Security risks will be on their part.

No service or media is using "uncompressed" material. All of them are using some kind of compression, be it lossy or "lossless"*. Even BD uses lossy encoding with high bitrate:

*Beware lossless refers to the compression method. The ADC's used nowadays not yet capable of converting the analog signal into digital without losses. The same goes for DAC's

Sorry, Uncompressed as the source of the video after decoding. Using terms as uncompressed and lossy loosely here.

You really shouldn't do that. They go under a different name but codec's are essentially compression algorithm's. Back to the topic stripping out the protection wont affect the quality if its done properly. It was done with DVD's, it happening to BD's, and it will happen to netflix as well(if it hasnt already).

Thank you, Sorry for the confusion. smile.gif

Updated my geforce driver and it works. The current driver is slightly newer than the one mentioned. You do not need to be on insider preview or anything complicated. You only need a 10 series gpu with the new driver and use edge or the app.

I'd still prefer a dedicated HTPC, but yeah, it's convenient... but there is a price to pay for that.

It's the same privacy and security issues that any (ht)pc will have though.

I think you need to read up on IoT security issues.

Netflix and crappy DRMs...
To me Netflix really falls into the depths of regular crappy TV broadcast, gotta have this or that nosense device to just play it.

I guess Netflix never heard of screen capture. Useless DRM, anything the user can see can be recorded. Why do they even bother, just wasting money on features that don't work and only annoy people.

I tried it out last night and I think it is working for my computer too. I noticed in House of Cards it looked a bit higher resolution. Still looked like crap though. Netflix streams are massively compressed, far more than they should be, but it is the only way they really can do it with US internet in such a sorry state.
