Finger length vs hand length for determining whether a mouse is comfortable

Ever since the Rocket Jump Ninja YouTube channel started to get popular, I have noticed people increasingly emulating Zy with regards to saying X mouse would be suitable for people with Y cm to Z cm length hands.

As someone with unusually shaped hands (larger palms/shorter fingers), I have noticed that finger length is much more important than hand length for determining which mice fit which hand. Talking to friends and watching YouTube reviews, the people that seem to be complaining about mice being too narrow (grip width) are the ones with long fingers.

What's everyone's 2 cents on this?
