[TH]AMD Ryzen: Good For Enthusiasts, Bad For Investors - Page 3

Strictly looking at the competiton, the 1800x is the best value CPU on the market. Literally less than half the price of a competing Intel processor. Ryzen just doesn't separate itself well value wise, but you have always gotten more fro spending less with AMD.

L-M-A-O truly. Only Cooler Master and corsair have even been up to task of getting AM4 compatible kits and coolers in a timely manner and Cooler Master MAKES the wraith max and every AMD cooler these days...lol. Most brands have slapped Ryzen owners in the face with delays and suggesting they straight up buy a NEW cooler.

I had a Thermaltake Water 3.0 360 RGB AIO, luckily my Crosshair 6 Hero takes any type of AMD compatible design because i wasn't waiting till mid April for a kit that i till have to buy nor buying a while new $180 AIO.

Actually there was, and lots of people still are buying the 1800x and 1700x because overclocking isn't something that everyone does. Just imagine all the Intel K line chips out there that have never had their multi's touched. I could argue that Intel's "stratifying" is actually losing them revenue, because people are smart enough to know that "hey I'm never going to overclock this so i can save money and get the locked variant". That is pretty much as valid, and dumb, as saying AMD is losing revenue by making all their chips unlocked.

Tech people talking about stock prices...

It shot up in price due to hype look at any other stock people get all excited and buy the stock then when they settle down the price finds its supported price.

Its spent years trading under $4 a share people thought it was going to knock Intel off and its a solid chip but no Intel killer. So price settles a little now we wait if theres a ramp for Vega.

AMD is making money which is great for them. This is what the market has decided the share price is worth after the hype.

I would agree, imo and about my scientific side, i would not deal with investors when i do research.
Unfortunately even not being into this, a the moment in this actual world, you must more or less deal with $ and investors.
Otherwise you get screwed and can't even continue your science further, that should be far away for being source of money 1st!

its selling out but with small profit

example intel selling 1 $1000 cpu makes 700 profit
amd sells one $500 cpu makes 60 profit

this has nothing to do with performance, it has to do with cost and overhead
remember intel has their own fab, amd has to pay and then lower their prices to be competitive which kills overall profit

You guys complain that WCCF are bad but TH have been bad for the two decades I've known them. During the Netburst era they were rabidly pro Intel and even skewed their results in Intel's favour and it seems they still need to show their old allegiance from time to time.

Do you have any info of the cost it takes to make a Ryzen chip?

Bundled with coolers show there is lots of margin on Ryzen chips. There is no cost reduction attempt with Ryzen. Unlike intel....

Stock prices drop for many reasons.

I am more interested in this low profit you spoke about though. How much does it cost to make a Ryzen chip? rolleyes.gif
