Maybe Intel is recommending YOU to delid their CPU so they can sell you a chip without warranty for $300+. Smart dirty move.

maybe the surface of that cpu or the block base is slightly curved or both idk.
Ive seen that a few times and i had to polish the base but it (old sandy) never reached such high temps

we checked for that on the recommendation of a friend, razorblade test shows its flat on all 3 surfaces atleast to the naked eye. he ended up sending it back to newegg monday.

If it's a process problem or a mix between arch and process, then it should also affect the i3-7350K. There are probably very few owners of that one to test though, but if there is a chip whose entire value proposition rides on the ability, well, actually, the necessity to overclock it from the stock 4.2 Ghz to 5.0 Ghz right out of the box to even think about it being worth the asking price, it's this one CPU.

It'll also be interesting to see what Intel does with the upcoming i7-7740K for the enthusiast platform.

Overclocking was do your own risk. But nowadays when overclock is offered as deference market segment and we pay alot more for overclocking, this is ridiculous...

There's no issue with the CPU itself ... it's just the terrible TIM that they use that ruin such a good processor.

Intel is still faster. pretty much all the reason enthusiasts need.

In the GPU space, AMDs VRM have been pretty OP. RX480/470 reference VRMs were stupidly OP, but also split onto the power rails in a awkward way. The motherboard would fail/burn before the VRM on the GPU did.

For pure speed, the only chip where intel wins hands down would be the 7700k. Everything else is very close in terms of performance. The budget gamer setups (i5-7500 etc) are not even in the fight at this point (too expensive, lacks features), and the 6+ core setups are too expensive for what you get IMHO.
