Microsoft will not use its Shanghai event to announce a Surface Pro 5.
In an interview with CNET, Microsoft's devices chief, Panos Panay, said Microsoft doesn't plan to introduce a new Surface Pro 5 model until there's "an experiential change that makes a huge difference in product line." Panay explained a "meaningful change" doesn't just mean the latest processor or a similar hardware upgrade. He also made it clear that "there's no such thing as the Surface Pro 5" right now.
Earlier this month, Microsoft unveiled a new Surface Laptop at an education-focused event, and then a couple days later, it invited the media to another hardware event in Shanghai, sparking rumours that the company is planning to finally update its Surface Pro line, but now we know that's officially not the case. Panay's recent comments lead us to believe the Surface Pro 4 will be around for a while longer.
"What I'm super, super sure of is that the people using a Pro 4 have a product that's going to be competitive for five years," Panay said. So, what does that mean? We think you shouldn't expect a Surface Pro 5 anytime soon. But there may be some Surface news at Microsoft's next event. Current reports even think Microsoft may refresh the Surface Pro 4 with Kaby Lake processors.
Wow, so, what they're saying is "if Apple can keep selling ridiculously outdated hardware so can we".
Everything about the mobile hardware industry sucks so much right now, most SOC's are 2-3 years old already and practically no-one is moving toward using the latest chips.

I'm actually a bit disappointed by this. The surface pro 3 has been an ideal device for me and in eventually, when it dies, would love to essentially grab a like replacement.

I had my heart set on a surface book a while back, ended up with a lenovo yoga 900s for half the price. Very happy with it (although I don't really put it through it's paces, have a decent desktop)
Yes 2-in-1's don't seem to have done that well - I don't know many people with them, compared to traditional laptops.
I like them a lot, can't find any real justification for a tablet and regular laptops don't offer enough over a desktop for me (i don't work on the go that much) to warrant owning. The combo of the two is a device worth buying IMO

I personally dont understand that market. I prefer a laptop. Touch is fun, but its typically just a gimmic unless you are saving room by not adding a keyboard.... Keyboards will always feel better to type on, so while you COULD write your paper or whatever on a tablet, you would probably prefer on a laptop. With everyone with smartphones... a tablet is just an oversized smartphone... and do you really need that? At the same time, you also have companies like Nintendo which decided to convert its latest console to by a hybrid mobile... which that confuses me as well. So, for me its safe to say I have no clue how this market works. I disagree with the sentiment of something revolusionary, but more so if there is a worth while performance increase. With my new phone, im not looking for any crazy no revolutionary component... I just want one to run faster. What i dont want, is to spend $600 for something that is kinda faster.

Hey all has anyone looked into the new Samsung Galaxy Book 12 comes with a 3.1 GHz, 7th Gen Intel® Core™ i5 Processor and most importantly comes with a 12" Super AMOLED Display. Price starts at $1129.99 looks promising

What sells me is the big AMOLED Display once you see it and compare it to other phones or tablets nothing comes close. Not trying to hijack thread I myself was waiting for the Surface Pro 5, but now I think I'll give Samsung a try. They also have Verizon version as well built in.

I kinda don't want to be addicted to Amoled anymore lol
