Knowing Intel, this will likely be priced around $2000

Isn't a 16 core/32 thread Zen based HEDT product due around this time as well?

Turbo 4.5ghz on an 8 core cpu! ( a golden 6850K can get 4.6ghz without delidding for that last 6-8C ). A golden 7700K can get around 5.2 without delidding for that 20-30C and ~5.3+ after.

Skylake-S still ran higher clocks even if you disabled some cores on the Broadwell-E chips

The 18C Xeon 6136 runs at 3ghz base. They could release that too right? 7950 / 7970 / 7990?

The more I read about Skylake-X, the less I like it. No Xeons on workstation HEDT motherboards anymore, and unless Intel drops prices from AMD competition for the first time in their history. probably high prices still. Plus, 40+ lanes looks like it's higher up in the food-chain now. Also, a 4c/4t "i7" on HEDT?! I think Intel already had these in the pipeline when Intel's internal documents were predicting Ryzen would be nothing to worry about. If you're looking for Intel's response to Ryzen, this isn't it.

I predict yes, the two times in Intel's history when AMD made better chips than them, they didn't lower prices. They can let DIY builders choose AMD, they have partnerships and marketing, and payola to sales droids, for servers and prebuilts that will give them a large market-share for a while until AMD gains more mind-share.

So when AMD releases 12/32 will respond again? Think of the marketing for i11 "These go to 11".

The will have a uphill battle if they do not price effectively. While the 7700k could hold a win in the more powerful core gaming department the 1700 Ryzen chip @ $315 absolutely destroyed it in anything that takes advantage of more than basic core loads (and many more expensive high core offerings too from intel). Traditionally the intel enthusiasts line has had more cores but lower clock speed as well as being a architecture behind the 4 core standard line, this will be a fairer match and comparison to the Ryzen chip.

Edit: that poster 2 spots above me has a terrible Avatar.

I just want a price

People who don't want to downgrade in single core performance yet want more cores at the same time...
