The Shift X is definitely a head-turner. Can't help thinking it would be more compact if it was designed from the ground up for 240-280mm rads (rather like the Corsair One). It leaves the X rather inefficient -- the extra height (and overall volume) of the 'X' over the vanilla Shift is just a 'stretch upward' to accommodate that 280mm rad vertically, and leaves rather a lot of empty space..still it is somewhere to show off an over-sized tube res...
I've been a fan of the FT03 vertical form factor and it's nice to see other manufacturer's making some improvements for wcing. The Shift looks like it will meet most people's requirements for basic wcing including room for a hybrid GPU cooler and AIO on the CPU.
The Shift X does look a bit tall with some wasted space, but the only way to really compress it without changing the overall layout would be angling the rad. And that won't gain you a lot with the PSU in the way. Something like a vertical Ghost S1 would be the only way to really compress things with wcing. Of course, this would limit the components you could use even more which isn't something Phanteks would want to do.
Always loved monolithic type cases and vertical instead of horizontal. I went with a Rosewill Rise for that reason but never got around to watercooling it or getting a 2P board for it; which didn't really fulfill it's potential. I like how this is more compact overall and geared towards current aesthetics than my Rise.
Plenty for most setups, you won't be able to keep your fans running at 500rpm under full load like some more extensive loops. But 1000-1200rpm on most decent fans coupled with a decent radiator would keep temperatures well within bounds for basically any single GPU/CPU loop.
Well that thing would look really pretty sitting on my desk at work, it doesn't make any sense to go through the hassle of watercooling my work machine.... but it would look really pretty sitting on my desk
You're missing the point, these cases focus on a small footprint. Both Evolv Shift cases only have a footprint of 460cm² while your SG08 has a footprint of 780cm².
Not really my cup of tea, but it looks like a very well built and thought out case. Should be great for those interested ITX builds.
