Question, why so many pins compared to intel's? What is the logic behind pin count?
Minimum of 4 memory channels (8 if they accept the Epyc chips as well), which is about 288 pins per memory channel. Then there's the ton of PCI-E these things have (max 64 lanes for threadripper, 128 for Epyc), at 4 pins per lane (2 in, 2 out). Throw in miscellaneous I/O, power, and ground pins, and there you have it at 4000+ pins.

Hell, the memory pins alone are more than the total amount of pins for my own Xeon.

Oh wow that socket is glorious, though I don't see it going well for current cooler designs

I love how massive the socket is haha; srs bznz. I also love that there's also room to put an M.2 slot next to the PCH. I wish the bracket was black too but it's not a big deal. Looking forward to a more minimal workstation board coming along though; don't like the designs on the PCH and I/O covers.

Coolers for this socket better come with some kind of support strapping. I don't know if there's enough aluminum left in the world to cool those things. <3
Maybe two AIO that have a square block both next to each other on the die?

Afraid not, it's 2-4 Summit Ridge dies on one package.

I agree, which is fairly sad. I wonder if we will even see mATX though considering that all of the features of Threadripper would be hard to fit on even that size.

One made-up word: Boner-rific.

I have no need for that much CPU, but Lord Jesus do I want 7!

Its a possibility. An HPC APU was featured in one of their past roadmaps via AMDJapan event some year ago. With VEGA rumored to have their so-called interconnect aka Infinity Fabric or so.
The possibility could be there for an on-package graphics solution.

Theres still alot amount of room on the package substrate on SP3/TR4 even with just 2 Ryzen dies. I wonder whats really under the hood of Threadripper chips?
