"AMD X399" chipset is a new platform that seems to correspond to the high-end CPU "RYZEN Threadripper" of up to 16 cores / 32 threads that AMD plans to introduce in the summer of 2017.
GIGABYTE is rumored to adopt a socket called "TR4", while not saying details. The CPU supports PCI Express Gen.3 of 64 lanes and it corresponds to 4-way CrossFire.
On this motherboard this time, there is silk printing "X399 AORUS Gaming 7" near the PCI Express x16 slot, and the cover of the socket has the stamp "SP3 SAM" on the cover of the socket.
The NDA is strong this year, usually you'd get photos and info quick about new platforms coming, I guess AMD is holding the beans for their keynote rather than slowly leak and spill.
But I already have this 5960X and I need vega more and I don't wanna spend $2500+ for an overhaul and still need to get a new cooler because lol the chip is bigger than the block on my 2011!
AMD whhhyyyyy did you need to pick this year to rip Intel's HEDT line apart?!
If AMD was not about to release a 16/32 CPU on X399, Intel would not be releasing an 18/36 monster, or for that matter rebranding a 7600K & 7700K onto the X299 platform as well. Thanks again AMD for waking the narcoleptic called Intel.
Well according to the flyer display next to the board, it says it can have up to 64 PCI-E lanes. This mean all X399 can be EPYC aka Naples compatible?. Also even says it supports both ECC and Non-ECC Buffered DDR4.
I'm just happy to see consumers getting a ton of I/O out of a single board now compared to the competition.

I think it will make more of a difference for people using GPU's for things other than games. I guess it would be nice to have full x16 for that fourth card, might mean that card will give you 10% more performance instead of 8%.
