Hello, I'm currently on an LGA1366 motherboard with a x5660. I'm using a 212 evo to cool my cpu and I can go up to 4.4 ghz 1.35vcore but this is where temps start to become a serious problem as the cpu will go above 85c. This causes stability issues and especially right now in mid summer I'm having difficulties as my room will reach 80F+ ambient temperatures.
So what I'd like to know what would be a reasonable upgrade for less than 80 dollars. I might attempt pushing the voltage higher for better OC (above 1.4v) . Cost and performance are the most important factors for me, I'm not concerned about noise. All advice greatly appreciated

How much RAM are you using? The biggest problems I have with my old X58 are needing more RAM than I originally used. With modern OS I feel 16GB is about as little as i want to run. Even with 15GB I sometimes need more for graphics intensive work.
I also need more USB 3.0, SATA 3 that really works .. features not in use when X58 was popular.

I think having 6 DIMMS could be why I struggle with my OC, but 4GHz is good enough for just now.
I think once I get some liquid cooling (I mean real custom loop) I will try to get back to 4.5 or switch back to my i7-920
EDIT
I agree with missing features, but I just piled on lots of extra PCIE cards lol.
My onboard sound died - Got a Sound Blaster
My onboard ethernet died, got a intel NIC
Not enough USB, got a PCIE usb3.0 and a hub
SATA blows, PCIE to m.2 cards.
eventually i am gonna run out of upgrades lol, but i LOVE this motherboard
Have tried few coolers as well on my old setup (P6T SE and X5670 OC to 4.2-4.4GHz), personally have run 48GB RAM but still this size hasn't been enough for me as I do rendering sometimes wity V-RAY or Corona and this eats lots of RAM
Regarding the coolers I've been very happy with Thermalright HR02 and then I tried as well few AIO and with H100i I couldn't run 4.4GHz only 4.2GHz and with HR02 I could run 4.4GHz easy

I only run 12gigs of ram I don't see myself ever needing more than that. I'm on the ASUS Rampage III Gene so I have 3.0 usb and SATA 3, tho the sata 3 on this board is useless because of the ****ty marvel controller.

I think it depends a lot on the motherboard, I can push up to 210 bclk on mine. I've been able to load into windows with 4.8 before but it was getting way too hot! I need better cooling to check stability.

I don't do any rendering so 12gb seems good enough for now.
That is very strange that the AIO couldn't handle 4.4 while the HR02 could. Thermalright coolers do seem very good I'm thinking of getting the thermalright true spirit 140 but I'm not sure how much of a difference that will make over the 212 EVO.

Geez that is a lot of ram

I went with X99 after that as 48GB hasn't been enough for me, right now I'm running 96GB which is enough for my needs
Yup this has been issue with AIO I could run 4.2GHz and 175*24 as with 200*21 I couldn't boot at all and 4.4GHz has been just dream on H100i
Then tried Thermalright HR02 and been very happy as I could run easy 4.4GHz with same chip, Thermalright True Spirit 140 should be great there, I like Le Grande Macho RT which I want to put on my friend PC
Hope this helps
Thanks, Jura
