Alright, I made the jump, Taichi MOBO, 1800X CPU but I got this for memory......G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600) Intel Z170 Platform Desktop Memory Model F4-3200C16Q-32GVRB. Was I not right?
I believe Ryzen CPU's are able to utilize fully, Samsung B die single sided sticks, not sure if yours is, so you may not be able to run at 3200mhz right now, but could change in the near future

it was not horrible ram but 3200 c16 is not likely to be bdie. Latest beta bios has changed the game easier to do now but not guaranteed. and even in older bios it might have been possible to run, though more difficult to set up.

Which kit would get for a fresh R7 + Taichi build to maximize the chances of hitting 16GB (or 32GB if possible) 3200mhz dual rank? I plan to overclock the R7 to 3.7ghz+ if possible.

Cas 15/16 3600 tridentz. Dual rank x 16 probably still easier to run fast but 2x8 certain to achieve high... unless you think you need 64 down the road 4x8 gives wiggle room.

I won't need 64, I just don't want to buy a 32GB kit (especially with current pricing) unless there's a very good chance that I'll be able to perform well. From my understanding people are having issues with even the most successful 32GB kits. I'll likely play it safe and get the F4-3200C14D-16GFX

It does happen for any number of reasons. The taichi owner's thread more recently shows what's happening on the memory front with the latest bios and then you can decide for yourself if 32gb has a very good chance of working.
My ryzen rig loves my G.Skill Trident Z RGB 3200 CL14. CL14 is the most important part since that is the samsung b-die that Ryzen likes I just finished my build yesterday used AMDs XMP profile to get 3200Mhz right off the bat without any crashes. Ryzen really performs better with fast memory.
