The remastered version of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is finally set to be released on its own. Activision today confirmed a standalone edition of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered is on the way, with a PS4 release set for next week.

Modern Warfare Remastered releases for PS4 at retail and on the PlayStation Store on Tuesday, June 27, priced at $40. Activision's press release notes "other platforms"--likely meaning both PC and Xbox One--will "follow," but it doesn't provide any further specifics. Call of Duty DLC releases typically trail about a month behind on PC and Xbox One, though we don't know if that same timed-exclusivity window applies in the case of something more substantial like this.

This can make some people happy but $40 is a bit much?

I believe they had said that the only way to own this game was through purchasing (or preordering) Infinite War.

Never trush this publisher. I am sure some people HAD to buy Infinite war just to own this remaster.

They're basically saying that CoD4 is worth $40, while Infinite Warfare was trash. Too bad they didn't just release CoD 4 Standalone for $40 from the get-go. Would've made a decent amount of money.

But they do know that people that were waiting will pay $40 for it, since they weren't going to pay $90(?) for Infinite warfare bundle. I'll just wait for a sale on the retail copy.

The original MW4 still runs fine on Windows10 and through steam. There's a huge mod community behind it too so I see no reason to buy this.
They also "updated" the sound effects of grenades and gun fire etc. to use sounds from more recent COD titles which ruins it for me to be honest.

Monetizing the legacy, it's the flavour of the past few years, unfortunately.

To me, the remaster was ruined by the extreme frame judder. The game just always felt like it was dropping frames randomly even with 100+ fps. The original didnt feel like that.
Adding this to the previously quoted post, I wonder how many copies they expect to sell at that price?

I wouldn't even pay $40 if it was DRM free on GOG. Make it $25 max ($19.99 preferably) and DRM free and I'll buy it. Anything else is just ridiculous for what is essentially a remaster of a 10 year old game.

I find it funny that the Infinite Warfare Legacy edition (Which contains both Infinite Warfare and the Modern Warfare remaster) is sold for $26 brand new locally.

Reminder that the map packs for this cost more than the original CoD 4.

So.

That's good.

A perfectly good game ruined by greed.

Wouldnt take this even if it were free as they've ruined the game.
It's great, isn't it? Give AAA publishers one simple job and they royally crap the bed. Like, "take this old game and improve the texture quality." That easy. But no, can't have that. Instead, it needs microtransactions, paid DLC, enough edits to the engine that the bizarrely fanatic meta are totally ruined...

Nobody even wants this at this point. Any excitement was long gone ages ago.

Really, it's the best example of just how greedy the AAA industry has become in the span of ten years. I'm impressed and disgusted, yet not really surprised.

Gaming has been turned into just another aspect of the gambling industry imo. I think in a few generations (of people) we'll start seeing a sudden explosion of gambling problems among young adults.

Funny enough, some less-than-reputable actual gambling sites will pay for links to be hidden in articles on gaming media sites. Most sites with the slightest inkling of self-respect ignore them, but there are a few that take the bait and provide the "SEO juice" for these gambling sites. There's a Jimquisition on it, buried in the middle of the Brash Games debacle after allegations that Paul Ryan (not that one) participated in such a scheme and was likely paid a whopping $100.

But yeah the CS:GO-style crates (or I guess TF2, I think that was first) are gambling by any definition except legal. They don't even give the odds for a given drop most of the time, and if you get duplicates they're almost always worthless or close to it. I don't entirely abhor Valve's implementation, but that's because I can sell these for Steam money. Payday 2 has gotten me like ten bucks from its safe drops and skins (which I immediately dumped back into DLC lol). But others, like Overwatch and its microtransactions alongside its $60 price tag are pretty awful. The only defense they have is that they do not affect game balance.

Wow so late, I would have considered if it wasn't THIS late.. like come on. This is a cash grab for Activision to bridge the gap until the new World War II release

Oh. I take it back then. I'll just buy the original version DRM free for $9.99 when they make it available on GOG... which will probably happen in 20 years time lol (for context, not even the first games are there).

I was waiting for this actually the standalone cause i wasnt going to buy the deluxe cod or the new cod in general to play MW. If it was $20 i would bite, but at $40 hell no. In fact actually i didnt know it was this bad with your bullet list if thats how it really is then i wont even touch it if it were free.

I liked the original game but I will not purchase this one. I heard this game doesn't even support dedicated servers and no longer has support for 64 players compared to the original version.... what a joke, they went backwards with this "remastered" game.

I would argue that anyone old enough to remember the original release has probably at least gone to college by now. Good times.

Still, $40 for a remaster? Man imagine if Microsoft resold Halo 2, all by itself, for $40..............can't lie if it were on PC I would buy that so quickly.

if it's a remake ...$30-40 is fine

a 1-2 year old remaster of a 10 year old shooter?

Activision gon' Activision
