Tim to use for Watercooling

hi there wht is the best tim to use for a custom loop please the one i was using was mx 3 and i have also got mx 5 but I'm not sure what is the best for it i seem to allways use to much thinking it would not work

Personally I prefer Kryonaut on CPU which gives me best temperatures, tried GC-Extreme but not been satisfied with temperatures

I would put size of rice grain on middle CPU this works for me with every chip what I tried and run from i7-920 to X5670 to 6700k or 4790k or now 5820k or E5-2683v3

On GPU I usually do X pattern which works for me

1 rice grain is enough for the cpu, 2 is to mutch imo.

You dont have to cover the whole IHS since the cpu die is not as big as the IHS, so 1 rice grain drop in the middle is enough.

and my last post I was just saying that as a way to tell when you have covered the IHS with enough thermal grease and if you want to be 100% safe. I always cover the IHS, not that one need to but I like to be on the safe side and the total work is like 15 - 20 sec.

More is really not better, when it comes to cpu thermal paste you can use the frase " less is more "

I dont have a picture laying around that says " this is enough grease " but I can tell you are unsure about how mutch or even how to apply it to the IHS.

A small DIY trick you could do to check yourself is to get a small square piece of glass or acrylic. Put a rise grain size of paste on the IHS and then apply pressure with the glass / acrylic and see how it spreads.

But with my PRO!!! paintshop skills I made a quick drawing telling when you have enough spread on the IHS

( have an 7700k in mind so that is the drawing example )

Green = Chip
Gray = Heat spreader
Black = Cpu die
Orange`ish = The triangle on the chip
Red = paste spread



As long as you have a thermal paste spread that cover the die underneath the IHS you are good to go

And I will say it even if I bet you ofc know this from before but better safe than sorry

Apply even pressure when you screw the block down so you get an eaven spread of the thermal grease.
